I am an experienced researcher in the field of exercise and cancer with a research focus on the role of exercise in maintaining and optimising health during and after cancer treatment and managing treatment-related side-effects. I have clinical and research experience with a range of cancer types, from the most common (e.g., breast and colorectal cancer) to more rare cancers such as ovarian cancer and multiple myeloma.I believe in the importance of translating research into practice and actively strive to influence policy. I was an author of the 2009 Australian Position Statement on Exercise and Cancer (internationally the first position statement in the field), as well as the updated guidelines published in 2019. I have authored "Exercise is Medicine" factsheets with the focus of educating both medical professionals and consumers, have developed and delivered national professional development workshops and seminars for exercise professionals and regularly present to patient and special interest groups.I have a particular interest from both a research and clinical perspective in developing evidence-based guidelines for exercise professionals and supporting cancer survivors to overcome barriers to engaging in sufficient exercise. I am currently involved in establishing comprehensive reporting guidelines for exercise-related adverse events.My primary role is in clinical research and but I enjoy maintaining an active clinical workload as an Accredited Exercise Physiologist.
