Design clinically relevant mechanical and electrical testing for product and components of implantable medical devices (i.e. Brain stimulation, Spinal cord stimulation, Gastro-Uro stimulation, Targeted drug delivery).Develop and validate test methods (using Gage R&R and other statistical tools) per FDA 21CFR-Part 820 guidelinesDesign, implementation, and qualification (i.e. IQ, OQ, software validation, etc.) of test equipment, tooling, and fixturing for product and component testingProvide work direction and test method training to test technicians

Design and configure environmental testing systems for long-term exposure and mechanical testing, such as inert, steam, and reforming environments.Characterize and evaluate materials for various applications, including solid oxide fuel cell components (porous ceramics, metal interconnects, glass seals); lithium ion batteries (polymer separators); thermoelectric materials (Bismuth Telluride, Lead Telluride); and thin film coatings.Manage operations at four laboratories to ensure safety and compliance with ES&H standards.Prepare experimental standard operating procedures and train new personnel on assigned equipment.Assign laboratory work space and coordinate use of shared equipment. Supervise summer interns and undergraduate research assistants; collaborate with researchers from ORNL, industry, academia, and other research entities.
