Passionate about fighting all forms of injustice, I am committed to driving transformational change at the individual, institutional, and structural levels. In my current role as a Workforce Development fellow at GRID Alternatives Colorado, I advocate for individuals facing significant barriers to employment to join our solar installation training programs. Through our paid job training, participants gain the skills they need to get good-paying jobs as solar professionals, and be part of the transition to renewable energy.Initially determined to work in government as an elected official, I pursued an education in public affairs and policy. I quickly became frustrated with the insistence that lasting change can only be achieved incrementally through legislation, crafted by politicians that too often do not represent the needs of marginalized communities. Becoming active in local and national grassroots organizing efforts galvanized me to pursue means of affecting change that center community needs. As I can continue my work to advance systemic change, I hope to implement people -centered practices and policies that advance equity, justice, and accessibility. In my role at GRID, I am learning how to create transformative relationships that sustain equity-centered policy. Whatever the work environment, I strive to get to know my co-workers as people who have value beyond output or efficiency. I firmly believe in bringing your whole self to work, that feelings are valuable indicators, and lived experience is an important form of knowledge. And all is essential in any change-making space.
