Alejandro Rosales is currently the Science & Technology Manager in IRIS Technology Solutions S.L., managing its Innovation Portfolio from a scientific and technological perspective. He is also a member of the IRIS's Innovation Committee, the board that define and foster the company's strategic business lines. He has a M.Sc. in Physics from Universidad de La Habana (1986) and his expertise comprises both theoretical and hands-on skills in several scientific and technological areas: optics, lasers, high vacuum, high voltage, spectroscopy, chemometrics as well as design of measurement instruments and their integration in industrial lines. He has also practical experience in programming, electronics and mechanical CAD design as well as R&D methodology and management of R&D multidisciplinary teams. His career has included positions such as researcher, sales and applications engineer, business developer and technical and R&D manager. During the 2000s, his work was mainly focused in developing and commercializing an IR-spectroscopy-based solution for quality control in the agro-food industry. Likewise, during that period, he developed two new measurement instruments for wine analysis. In IRIS, he was the Technical Manager from 2011 to 2013, leading a staff of engineers and researchers in several industry-focused hi-tech R&D projects. In his current position, he has been fostering the development of proprietary PAT (Process Analytical Technologies) solutions, PI (Process Intensification) technologies and Artificial-Intelligence-based Smart Management tools as well as contributing to ideate novel concepts on these fields that have been successfully tackled in several H2020 projects. He is competent in leading teams to ensure “no thinking in terms of silos”, and is savvy enough to engage with external actors and the diverse stakeholders as required to ensure “openness for ideas from outside”, alliances and win-win deals with partners and clients.
