As the Director for IQVIA's engagement with the NHS and wider healthcare system, I lead on our engagement activities across the UK, particularly with senior stakeholders across relevant client groups for our solutions and services. Within this role I also lead and coordinate the sales efforts of the teams and individuals accountable for engaging with our clients with the ambition to become the strategic delivery partner for transforming pathways and improving outcomes across the healthcare system.

Within 12 months I developed and delivered an innovative programme for early access and market shaping for the Novartis new pipeline portfolio to enable faster and more effective launch excellence. This programme has been identified as best practice and I have collaborated with >250 Region Europe and global colleagues across pipeline, medical, and value and access teams to share expertise and learnings. I ensured that UK cross-enterprise associates (>600) could access and keep up-to-date with UK NHS structures and priorities, through leading a Healthcare Systems Insights programme. The impact of this has been that our associates have recognised that understanding the NHS enhances customer interactions and enables faster access to markets as they are more aligned to the needs and priorities of clinicians and commissioners, evidenced by the insights being adopted into all operational plans across core therapy area brands.

I was responsible for national stakeholder mapping and strategic engagement to leverage Novartis as a trusted partner to the wider health and care system. I developed, managed, and expanded partnerships, including senior leaders at ICS level, and the three, core think-tanks of the health system – NHS Confederation, The King’s Fund, and the Royal College of Physicians – enabling Novartis access to opportunities to the benefit of our priority areas.I delivered timely and succinct insights to the Market Access team, and the wider Novartis business, particularly crucial during the Covid-19 pandemic, to support commercial and innovation opportunities that brought value to Novartis and its portfolio.

I was seconded into the HCP, which covers a population of 2.7 million people across nine boroughs, at a critical and politically complex time as they developed their new strategy. I provided a transparent framework and a clear method for understanding what mattered to the population and to patients, and worked to ensure that the HCP developed and maintained key partnerships with stakeholders via innovative means of collaboration.This ensured the launched strategy reflected and addressed the core needs and priorities of the stakeholders from across the region, including C-Suite NHS and Local Authority leaders, clinical teams, voluntary organisations and patient groups, which enabled more constructive engagement during the subsequent strategy consultation.

A key member of the executive team, I worked alongside Chairs, Chief Executives and Board level members from the NHS and Higher Education sectors to develop an aligned strategy and to deliver outcomes against an agreed annual budget (£1-2m) which met the needs of all partners as well as the region’s population. This led, for example, to the establishment of Liverpool Centre for Cardiovascular Science and the Liverpool Centre for Alcohol Research, both key priorities for the region.I led the design, and instigated the delivery, of a central research governance office, bringing together 9 NHS Trusts’ departments into a single unit, better able to meet the needs of global pharmaceutical companies as well as local research teams. The legacy of this was the ability to simplify and speed up the research governance approval processes, an essential requirement for attracting research to the UK and to Liverpool, as defined by the UK MHRA and NIHR.I created a conference series - ‘Health is Wealth’ which attracted an international audience and harnessed the skills and expertise of stakeholders from across the healthcare system, and more widely. The event ran for 3 years, including at the International Business Festival, and consistently brought together >200 participants.

I was central the establishment of LHP as a subscription-based, limited company, in the format of an academic health science system and successfully kept the partnership functional and cooperative across the 9 NHS and 3 Higher Education partners.My success in this role led to my appointment as the Chief Operating Officer from 2016.

Alongside my role as Head of Research, Innovation and Development I was also accountable for the set-up and productivity of a health, innovation and education cluster, with assurance of delivery against a national agenda, to ensure the delivery of real impacts to communities through health initiatives.

This role was integral to the department's application to gain CIPD status for the MA course. It was necessary to examine and coordinate the MA syllabus with the CIPD criteria and to highlight areas where the MA both exceeded and fell short of these criteria. This information was then collated and presented in a detailed Excell document that formed an essential part of the proposal which was sent to the CIPD.
