Exceeded recruitment goal of 2,520 recruits for STAR Student Pollworker Program resulting in nearly 3,000 high school students participating as Pollworkers in Municipal Elections as STAR Student Recruitment Team for 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 election cycles. Coordinate STAR Student Pollworker Program at LAUSD high schools. Met with faculty, conducted classroom presentations and student pollworker trainings. Establish good relationships with Community-Based Organizations and utilize community calendars for fairs/events to conduct outreach efforts to increase voter access and civic participation. In the one year employment at SHIELDS for Families, Inc., 8 families attained permanent housing and one of the families was a Katrina family. Collaborated with other social services agencies such as Housing Authority of City Los Angeles (HACLA)/ Housing Authority of County of Los Angeles (HACoLA) and Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) to progress families into permanent housing as well as proper community resources to aid their progress in employment/ educational advancement programs. Moved 8 families from transitional housing to permanent housing utilizing Section 8 Program and conducted follow up visits for 2-3 months Conducted home visits with families in drug/ alcohol treatment and mental health program and in transitional housing as well as follow up with families already in permanent housing to ensure they are in compliance with Section 8 Program. Participated in planning educational/ artistic events for families to attend during holidays as well as created SHIELDS first 2007 Halloween Haunted Hallway for staff and families

Xinachtli High School Outreach ProjectBegan as a Tutor/ Skill Builder and took on Skill Building/ English Language Learners Coordinator and move on to Site and Program Coordinator for Santa Monica High School. Expanded the English Language Learners from core group 7 students to 18 students. Expanded from two classrooms to utilizing three classrooms due to the increase in participation from high school students. Developed/implemented ExprésARTe curriculum for 2 years composed of art/creative writing/ music workshops with attendance and creation of open-mic nights leading up to final performances by students. 80% of students serviced in our program applied to higher education and attended a higher education institution Exceeded the goals for student participation by 20% in workshops and fieldtrips.
