Nature-based Solutions development, sustainable tourism practices and local communities involvement, as some of the key aspects.

Now it´s time to implement the tools developed during the past 4 years. For that, I have:- Created an eLearning course on the revised Groups standard, in English and Spanish: https://etraining.fsc.org/catalog/view/course/id/171/title/FSC%20Forest%20Management%20Groups%20Training/ref/13 .- Built the capacity of the users of the new Continuous Improvement procedure.- Finished the pilot project implemented in the US together with Rainforest Alliance during the past 4 years. In this pilot, the Smallholders Access Program, we have tested a very simplified forest management standard for a specific region where smallholders don´t have much interest in certification, in a region where forests are becoming less resilient.

In this exciting position, the social component at FSC is on focus. To improve the access and maintenance of FSC certification for small properties and community-owned forests, I have:- Revised the Group standard. Smallholders mainly join FSC through the creation of groups of small forests - this reduces their administrative burden and fees, and helps them get the support of forestry experts. The revision was a success, highly supported by stakeholders and quite an effective process.- Developed a Continuous Improvement procedure, to support access to FSC certification as a path with several steps. The effort to get certified can be divided in several years, which is more affordable for small properties and communities, both from the economic and the resources point of view.- Run a pilot project in the US to test a very simplified forest management standard, with the aim of attracting smallholders to certification. The final goal is to ensure legislation compliance and stop the degradation of the environmental values of the area.

In this new challenging position, I worked to measure which is the impact that FSC certification has on ecosystem services, how can we easily yet credibly measure that impact, and develop tools for certified organizations to use that positive impact as basis to make promotional claims about ecosystem services. These claims will ultimately facilitate the access of certified organizations to new markets, and gain benefit for the maintenance or enhancement of the biodiversity, the water, the soil, carbon stocks or recreational values. Final goal: extra incentive for forest conservation and equitably shared benefits.

- Development of the International Generic Indicators. Project Coordinator for this complex process, where for the first time we developed indicators to be used as basis for FSC National Standards for forest management. Including technical writing of the resulting standard, both in English and Spanish.- Communications and Engagement Committee - Chair- Transfer Procedure - Development Coordinator- Interim National Standards - Revision of FSC-STD-20-002 Coordinator

- Revision and development of FSC normative documents (Standards, Policies, etc.), including initiating the development of the International Generic Indicators.- Development and analysis of stakeholder consultations.- Communications with certification bodies, stakeholders, members and FSC local teams.- Management and resolution of interpretation requests on the FSC normative documents.- Development and update of IGI website (www.igi.fsc.org).- Maintenance of FSC Website content.

- Assisting with the implementation of the ENPI FLEG Program - Improving Forest Law Enforcement and Governance in the European Neighbourhood Policy East Countries and Russia (www.enpi-fleg.org);- Coordinating the program communication activities;- Fundraising, exploring opportunities with EU regional funds (DG Regio; DG DevCo);

- Developing and managing project proposals for the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). These projects aimed to commercialize technological solutions to diminish the bird mortality caused by wind farms and high tension transmission lines;- Fundraising / Business development.

- Developing and managing project proposals (ERDF, LEADER+);- Managing national and international environmental and tourism projects;- Writing reports and analytical studies;- Budget control;- Field research;- Developing Environmental Impact Assessments (green infrastructures; canalizations), including field research, information gathering, liaison with clients, etc.;- Developing Public Use and Environmental Education Plan;- Developing and implementing Environment and Quality Management Systems (according to ISO 14001 and ISO 9001);- Analysis and diagnosis of local authorities’ urban plans by establishing sustainability indicators, in the Doñana National Park, Spain;- Developing green infrastructures and ecological networks. For instance, to improve the accessibility of a Ramsar site, restore the surroundings and give them a recreational/touristic use;- Restoring areas affected by human activities. Including field research, writing proposals, budget control and execution on the field. For example: illegal rubbish dumps, basins affected by erosion and lack of vegetation, abandoned tracks, etc.;- Supervising enforcement of regional and local environmental legislation;- Developing sustainable tourism strategies in Natural and National Parks;- Organising international events (rural tourism, birdwatching fairs and workshops, etc.).
