About Rosa Whitaker

Rosa Whitaker, entrepreneur, investor and former US policy leader is President and CEO of The Whitaker Group, a transaction advisory and commercial project development firm delivering global investments across Africa for more than two decades. Her record of professional achievement also includes serving as the first-ever Assistant US Trade Representative for Africa in the Administrations of Presidents William J. Clinton and George W. Bush; a US career diplomat, Senior Trade Policy Advisor in the US House of Representatives; co-owner and President of a Ghana-based Pan African media company, Dominion TV; President and Board Vice Chair of Mercy Ships; and, advisor to CEOs and Heads of State. While serving as Senior Trade Policy Advisor to then-US Congressman Charlie Rangel, Rosa was one of the architects of the historic African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), America’s first comprehensive trade law with Africa enacted in 2000. She also built the boundary-transcending bipartisan coalition -- key to AGOA’s adoption and extension across the administrations of four US Presidents. While working in the US House of Representatives, Rosa further played a leadership role on US-China trade issues; the transition of the GATT to the WTO; and, helped to develop an innovative federally subsidized tax credit scheme to support private sector contributions to public schools. She serves on the WTO Business Advisory Board, and on the Boards of the US Chamber of Commerce and Afreximbank’s Fund for Export Development in Africa. She is the recipient of many awards and honors and is regularly featured in the media for commentary on Africa investment and business issues.
