Rob Schell has more than 17 years of experience both managing and performing key technical roles in dozens of projects throughout California. In his role as Wildlife and Fisheries Director, Rob ensures that WRA’s work represents a science-forward approach. Rob and his team utilize, perform, and conduct practical research that directly inform the complex and nuanced wildlife and fisheries management questions that most acutely affect conservation and land use outcomes. By cultivating an innovative technical environment, Rob and his team are able to develop bespoke, elegant, and cost-effective solutions to complex and diverse environmental challenges. Rob is a herpetologist and ecologist by training. He is an expert on the California red-legged frog, which he is currently undertaking a first of its kind translocation. Rob also has extensive experience with California tiger salamander and vernal pool branchiopods, for which he also holds federal recovery permits. He also is permitted to handle bats and CESA-listed reptiles and amphibians throughout California. Additionally, Rob has extensive experience with application of environmental DNA (eDNA) applications to streamline survey and monitoring protocols.
