I have been an operations manager at the CSIR for several years, dealing predominantly with business planning, documents and reporting, and monitoring and assessing the achievement of targets. The role has also involved managing the process around investment in technology and products and services as well as assisting with the management of Safety, Health and the Environment. I have had a strong role in building a quality management system to ensure excellence in all that we do. I have many years of experience in working both in the line and in support so have a shared understanding of the frustrations and requirements of both elements in the workplace. For some of this period, I also doubled up as an HR manager in one of the units which could not afford two managers in the early phases of its existence.

I spent several years as a generalist human resources manager at CSIR's Natural Resources for the Environment Unit, working with a team of human resource practitioners and specialist HR managers. I also played a role as a special projects manager on HR projects and assisted with the process of establishing career ladders within the CSIR, and revising and re-evaluating a whole range of job descriptions. Over some of this period, I doubled up as both HR and operations manager for a unit who did not have the resources to afford two managers at this point in time.

During this period, I was the Integration Coordinator and Technology Manager in CSIR Division of Water, Environment and Forest Technology, managing the process of investment of our parliamentary grant funding in research.

During this period of time, I worked as a Business Area Manager (middle manager) of a Geographical Spatial Information Systems Team in CSIR Division of Water, Environment and Forest Technology. I also did projects such as State of Environment reporting and Meta database management.

During this period I was a Project leader at the CSIR Division of Forest Science and Technology in GIS systems; Water use efficiency; costs and benefits of forestry; environmental impact studies.

Stellenbosch

During this period, I was a researcher in the field of plant water relations (measuring water use) and ecophysiology in the forest and fynbos. During this period, I did a fair bit of field work and published several papers with my colleagues at that time. I also completed and Honours and Masters degree.
