Partnered with the County of Hawai'i and Arizona State University to create a framework for the county to assess disaster risk, vulnerability, and exposure on the island of Hawai'i through the utilization of NASA earth observations. Personally responsible for creating a program within the Google Earth Engine API that uses a random forest classification algorithm to classify land cover type across the island from 1999 to the present. Produced an initial risk model of coastal communities to floods by combining land cover types, flood maps, exposure factors and socioeconomic vulnerability variables.

Worked in a team to analyze the locations of urban heat islands and heat vulnerable populations through utilization of NASA earth observations and socioeconomic data in Fairfax County, VA. This project served as a contribution to the county's proposed Resilient Fairfax: Climate Adaptation and Resilience Plan by helping partners better understand how environmental factors contribute to urban heat, identifying high risk areas, and modeling the impacts of certain mitigation strategies such as increasing canopy cover.

Ghanzi, Botswana

Conducted fieldwork in the Kalahari of Botswana while living in extreme remote conditions for 6 weeks. Collected data about the native vegetation within transect plots, utilizing field measurements and drone photogrammetry to calculate carrying capacity and analyze the vegetative response to changing climatic conditions. This experience also had a holistic focus on relationships between various stakeholders such as the community, government, and various outside actors when it came to conservation within Botswana, diving into the complexities and dynamics between the tourism industry, species-community relationships, protected areas, habitat degradation, and local indigenous peoples.
