Rose Afriyie has served as a public interest technologist for more than a decade. She serves as the principal of Afriyie Research and Development (RND) which houses an array of research and development projects. Rose is a former Googler and White House Alum who has served as a prominent nonprofit advisor and co-founder of the technology nonprofit mRelief.com. She is known for her significant contributions as Board President of mRelief, enabling Americans to access over $1.7 billion in social services while preserving their dignity. As a board member, Rose currently serves as the organization’s representative to the White House and the USDA on AI projects including ai.mrelief.com.Rose has also made significant contributions to artificial intelligence and social impact. In 2024, she co-developed a Microsoft-backed curriculum and framework to help nonprofits with drafting AI policies and to navigate what to consider as they decide how and when to adopt AI. It launched on Microsoft and partner channels In August 2024. Rose is also the project manager and chief researcher at Dondo.ai. She led the development of technology to create a virtual survey platform that makes it possible to field surveys online in an indigenous African language for populations that do not read or write English. Additionally, Rose has served as a scout and investor through Sam Altman’s Uncommon fund. She also has served as an advisor for social impact for-profits such as Journey Foods, Kola Market, and Promise Pay.Rose also specializes in conducting internal organizational assessments to support strategic planning at the GenForward Survey, a project at the University of Chicago. In 2023, Rose was recruited to the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign School of Information Sciences to serve on the Innovation Council to advance their mission and serve as a bridge to connect the School with different sectors.
