Served as the foreign policy adviser to Senator Chris Coons of Delaware who served as the Senate Foreign Relations Committee (SFRC) Chair for the African Affairs Sub-committee. Prepped and staffed the Senator for SFRC hearings and committee business meetings as well as for meetings with U.S. administration officials, foreign government officials, business leaders, and members of civil society. Planned and supported a hearing on democracy and security in Somalia and wrote and got legislation related to that hearing passed. Drafted amendments for legislation on Syria and for the National Defense Authorization and contributed to the State and Foreign Operations Appropriations bill.

Directed victorious top targeted U.S. Senate campaign's election and voter protection efforts. Used census and targeting data to identify counties and precincts requiring attention; recruited 250 volunteer attorneys to man a boiler room and polling places throughout the state; wrote all training materials for statewide staff; wrote voter protection manual and designed an accompanying reporting system; built relationships with county officials; stood up and managed a public voter hotline; wrote a recount plan; and managed a boiler room and voter hotline center on election day.

I provided the IOM mission in Libya with political and media analysis toward the end of the Libyan uprising. I tracked and built profiles of Libyan traditional and emerging power centers and provided briefings on Libyan history and leaders. I also monitored and analyzed the conversations taking place in Libyan social media to bolster and nuance traditional media updates.As needed I also assisted in IOM operations to repatriate sub-saharan migrant workers stranded by the conflict.

Resident Program Officer heading up a new technology for development program focused on Somalia. On an ad hoc basis, I also served as a regional political campaign trainer, working with youth and women throughout East and parts of Southern Africa.

I served as a Nairobi-based consultant for NDI, doing business development, grant writing, program management, and political training for NDI's Kenya and Somalia political party and governance programs.

Served as campaign manager to a first time state-wide candidate running for the office of Rhode Island Attorney General. I advised the candidate in all strategic campaign decisions, including message, policy, outreach, campaign structure, and use of resources. I hired and managed all staff and consultants for the campaign; wrote a $1,000,000 fundraising plan that raised over $300,000 in five months, topping both opponents; directed state and national political, union, and political action committee outreach; and served as sole spokesperson for the campaign, drafted all press releases and outreach materials, responded to press inquiries, and drafted speeches and talking points. Also provided messaging and public speaking training.I also designed and managed all operational aspects of the campaign including accounting systems, human resource policies, lease agreements, compliance, procurement, and banking.

I designed and implemented parliamentary, political party, civil society, and governance programs in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Somalia. Some of my regular responsibilities included writing grant proposals and Quarterly reports and drafting, revising, and managing budgets totaling over $8 million.Some of the more specific projects included:Contributing to the development of a party agent pollwatching handbook used by thousands of party operatives to monitor the Kenyan 2007 election; Conducting an assessment in eastern Uganda on the capacity of local leaders, political space, and citizen civic and political participation; helping to organize a conference on transparency and oversight in the extractive industries for parliamentarians in the East African Community; and helping to organize NDI’s International Leaders Forum (ILF), bringing 300 foreign dignitaries to the Democratic National Convention.

Staff on $3 million field program for a victorious top targeted U.S. Senate race, two congressional races, and a slate of local candidates. I personally managed a staff of 70 throughout 3 offices for “Get out the vote”During the race I also worked with local officials to integrate a successful Mayoral race, and two town council races into the GOTV plan, eventually turning out 107% of the necessary voters in Cumberland, RI for the Senate race.
