  • Casa Essex County
    Board Member
Casa Essex County Nov 2008 - Present
My Mission is to open the doors and extended network of concerned citizens that want to help raise awareness of the foster care dilemma in Essex County and of the services CASA offers to abused and neglected children through the Family Court System. Getting you to Become a Friend of CASA allows you to support the organization’s work if you aren’t able to volunteer as an Advocate for a child by offering us your unique talents and expertise on projects we need help with. We are looking for people who can work with us in ways that are of interest to them and that will aid the growth of the Essex County CASA program. CASA needs friends to host information events about child abuse and neglect, help plan and staff fund-raising events, assist with Public Relations efforts, provide introductions to their employers (or spouse’s employer) that may be open to a CASA presentation or willing to make a donation, and friends that will network within the community. Interested in becoming a friend reach out to me directly contact Carol Costello at 973-648-2814 or via email at ccostello@casaessex.org
  • Jersey Explorer Children'S Museum
    Board Member
Jersey Explorer Children'S Museum Mar 2007 - Present
The mission of the Jersey Explorer Children’s Museum (JECM) is to provide educational enrichment to the thousands of children who visit the museum to provide academic. Vocational opportunities to the at-risk young adults who build & staff the museum background: 20yrs ago the Urban Education Project began its partnership with New Jersey Youth Corps, together began construction of what would become New Jersey’s first museum built by kids for kids. Since 1992 JECM has been a pioneer in the areas of exhibit design & youth development. We are among the first non-profit children’s museums in the country to include immersion exhibits in our design. The first children’s museum to be built by young people. JECM is dedicated to addressing the need to improve the educational opportunities that are offered to all children, particularly the children of our inner city communities & the need to address the academic, job training, and personal development needs of thousands of often forgotten young people who drop out of high school each year. We have one of the most ambitious outreach programs in the county & we have a desperate need to expand. JECM is one of the most unique service programs in the United States & by expanding our workshops, classrooms & studios we will assist our Youth Corps students in continuing their work & expanding their learning opportunities. We have plans for an array of new exhibits that provide exciting & unique learning opportunities to the at-risk young people who built our museum & to our young visitors. The 80s and 90s reflected the growth and acceptance of the children’s museum movement as an important part of the cultural & educational fabric our national community. That movement has been sweeping the country & New Jersey has been well behind the rest of the nation. We believe that the creation of a first rate, full sized museum, dedicated to the children of New Jersey is long overdue. We believe that the Jersey Explorer should be that museum
