Volunteer Mentor

The Career Mentoring Program at The University of Melbourne matches graduates and undergraduate students from the Faculty of Business and Economics with business professionals. Students are linked with mentors based on their mutual interests and areas of speciality and, in my case, these are startups and entrepreneurship.In 2016 I was a mentor in the PwC 21st Century Minds (21CM) Accelerator Program. This initiative was aimed at STEM education start-ups.I am happy to privately mentor entrepreneurs, advise start-ups, and coach founders. Just ask me!

Personal Masterclass is a boutique tutoring and VCE revision service that's streamlining the way rural Principals, Heads of Curriculum, teachers, and students connect with freelance tutors and VCE revision presenters. We support VCE classes in rural Victoria by matching them with Melbourne-based teachers who live-stream VCE sessions into the classrooms. Unlike existing revision lectures that are monologues that are delivered in 3 to 8 hour chunks, our sessions are shorter, more focused, interactive, and optimised for learning and convenience. Prior to starting Personal Masterclass, and whilst a member of the Founder Institute incubator, I rolled out Digital Iconic, a platform to streamline the content and production of digital publications. I was responsible for the Adelaide office.In Adelaide and London I developed professional and personal growth courses that were attended by industry bodies, including the Real Estate Institute of Australia (SA) and members of the public via residential classes.

Re the ASX: Prior to internet based trading, when the action still happened on the trading floor, it was my prime responsibility to demystify the Exchange and make it more welcoming and accessible to the public. This I did by first preparing a business plan for the marketing division, then by developing promotional material for the Bourse, liaising with stockbrokers, by organising and conducting lectures and educational tours of the Exchange, for professional organisations, school classes, individuals and business groups.In London, my services were retained by Deloitte to assist with the rollout of the new corporate branding and to produce the alumni magazine.At Morison Stoneham my freelance work involved corporate branding, interview, article writing, and drafting of annual reports.

As political researcher, my responsibilities included research, analysis and interpretation of economic data, legislation and policy statements; the preparation of media releases and media monitoring; and liaison with Members of Parliament, their staff and government employees, and people in the South Australian electorate.At the SA Health Commission my research task began as a preliminary enquiry but was soon upgraded to a Royal Commission (which has since been resolved). My work involved an initial investigation into the impact, of the atomic tests that were conducted by the British at Maralinga in South Australia during the 1950's, on the health of nomadic Aborigines.At Australian National Railways I was tasked with monitoring and improving public opinion of the services provided on the interstate rail services. This involved drafting surveys, analysing the data and implementing practical solutions to overcome perceived weaknesses in the level of service delivered on interstate passenger trains.

I was in the auditing department of `Peats' (major client The News) and this set me up for three years of overseas freelance accounting appointments.In London, placements were at stockbrokers, chartered accountants, British Gas, Schlumberger and advertising agencies, and my roles encompassed auditing, credit control investigations, preparation of financial accounts, and reconciliation of tax returns.
