• Managed Measure 98, a statewide ballot measure approved by 65% of Oregon voters in November 2016 to revive Career Technical Education in the high schools: Led a staff of nine to build a politically and geographically diverse statewide coalition of teachers, labor unions, large and small businesses, community-based organizations, politicians from three political parties, and parents. Executed a multi-channel communications program with homegrown spokespeople who spread the campaign message across Oregon through earned media; network, cable and online video; mail; and social media. Oversaw editorial board visits by staff and coalition partners to newspapers papers across the state. Organized a targeted volunteer canvassing operation.• Oversaw Stand for Children Oregon’s Measure 98 field program during the 2017 legislative session to ensure lawmakers implemented Measure 98 properly: Worked with the Measure 98 coalition and staff to organize: lobby days in Salem; local lawmaker/constituent meetings; and a phone, email and social media advocacy program. Cultivated and grew the Measure 98 coalition.• Oversaw the design of a new, scalable grassroots organizing program to recruit working parents into school-based activities and advocacy for their high school-age children. Launched a six-school pilot project with a goal of bringing to scale by June 2019 with 200 parent leaders and volunteers in 20 high schools who recruit an additional 3,000 parents to participate in advocacy activities.

Raised over $200,000 annually in foundation grants from local and national funders such as the Meyer Memorial Trust and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.• Made concrete change: Built or revitalized statewide health care, tax and budget watchdog, consumer protection, public health and democracy programs. Developed policy solutions and political strategy, drafted legislation, released research, lobbied lawmakers, built coalitions, secured news media coverage, ran canvasses, petition drives, phone banks, and online activism programs. Highlights include: cut over $180 million in waste from health insurance premiums through stronger regulation and scrutiny, exposed the details of over $500 million in previously secret corporate tax subsidies, and won second-in-nation clawback of nearly $40 million in corporate tax revenue previously hidden in offshore tax havens.• Trained professional organizers and advocates, and assigned trained leaders to public interest organizations in OR, CT, MA, IL, MN and CA.• Helped build collaboration in the public interest movement: participated in and contributed to numerous statewide and local coalitions of lawmakers, businesses and organizations.• Maintained organization’s financial and corporate health and completed a $1 million renovation of organization’s office building.

• Led the nonpartisan New Voters Project: helped raise $1 million to staff over 40 college campuses with professional organizers who recruited thousands of student volunteers to help over 100,000 students register to vote and make over 300,000 personalized reminders to vote in the ’05 and ’06 elections.• Senior consultant to the Energy Action Coalition: helped student environmental groups raise $3 million to organize students on over 100 college campuses to stop global warming.• Helped design and run Powershift 2007, then America’s largest student conference on global warming: recruited and trained a team of ten organizers to recruit over 7,000 students from all 50 states to come to Washington, D.C. for a four-day activist training; developed an organizing template which was subsequently replicated for three successive years with increasing participation.• Chief strategist and researcher for PIRG Affordable College Textbooks campaign: released research, covered by news outlets in nearly every state, that incited activism on 50 college campuses and sparked a Congressional investigation, GAO report, federal and state legislation and numerous campus-level policies promoting greater price transparency and open-source textbook adoptions.• With PIRG Campus Team leadership, overhauled thirty-year old campus organizing model and trained 300 professional organizers through classroom trainings, field practicums and one-on-one mentorship.
