About Rose Pacatte, Fsp

Sr. Rose Pacatte entered the Catholic religious congregation of the Daughters of St. Paul in 1967. Born on November 19, 1951 in Portsmouth, VA, she grew up in a Navy family in San Diego, CA and has seven siblings. She has a BA in Liberal Arts with a concentration in media and catechetics from Magdalen College, Warner, NH, a MA in Education in Media Studies from the Institute of Education, University of London (UK), and a certificate in Pastoral Communications from the University of Dayton.Rose earned a Doctor of Ministry in Pastoral Communications (D.Min.) in 2018 from the Graduate Theological Foundation. She was awarded the Mother Teresa Prize by the GTF for her contributions to spirituality and community service. Rose's current focus is preparing her doctoral dissertation for publication: "To Seek God's Face: Theological Approaches to Film" for AP high school and undergraduates. She co-authored four other books on film and scripture and one pending publication with Pauline Books & Media with Peter Malone, MSC, "Lights, Camera, Faith: The Beatitudes and Deadly Sins."Rose is the Founding Director of the Pauline Center for Media Studies (PCMS) in Los Angeles. She has traveled to more than 13 countries to present on media literacy education, film, and theology, and to participate in Catholic, ecumenical, and interfaith juries at film festivals. She created the annual Advanced Certificate in Media Literacy Program for the PCMS (BeMediaMindful.org) in 2006; it is recognized in four California dioceses as a catechist specialization. Rose was the film/television critic for St. Anthony Messenger from 2003-2023 and the National Catholic Reporter since 2009.She has been teaching and training parents, teachers, catechists, and clergy about media literacy education, media and communication spirituality, and communication planning since 1995. Rose has received many awards for her writing and her work in media literacy education and film criticism.Her latest books are "Martin Sheen: Pilgrim on the Way" (2025) and "Cortia Kent: Gentle Revolutionary of the Heart" both from Liturgical Press (2017.) Rose is an experienced online course facilitator and course developer, and an award-winning author and TV and film critic. She has taught more than 32 courses online for the University of Dayton's Virtual Learning Community of Faith Formation since 2001.Currently, Sister Rose is based in Rome, Italy, and is the director of the Rome Office for the Pauline Center for Media Studies.
