A role that included management of sustainability risks and outcomes on the Western Sydney Airport Airside Civil and Pavement Works project. The project consisted of major paving works for the Western Sydney International Airport and involved construction of the 3.7km long runway and systems installation to enable operation of airport facilities including the terminal and auxiliary structures.Key responsibilities included:• Development of sustainability deliverables for the tender stage including developing close working relationships with the design and wider tender team to identify opportunities early. Held workshops to ensure sustainability objectives and targets were embedded in all parts of the scope.• Worked closely with the delivery design team to develop design documentation in line with sustainability targets stipulated in the contract. This involved extensive workshopping and individual sessions to with designers and the client.• Development of contractually required sustainability design deliverables in line with each design phase.• Facilitated multiple workshops including, kick-off, climate change and material opportunities.• Established management systems and processes to facilitate Infrastructure Sustainability Council (ISC) Design and As Built ratings.• Ongoing management of sustainability targets such as water, energy and material use, waste reporting, investigation and implementation of possible sustainability initiatives.• Facilitated Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED) risk identification and participated in external workshopping.• Facilitated development of climate risk assessments, adaptation identification and implementation and participated in external workshopping.• Facilitated training for engineering teams to better understand materials footprint and how to identify opportunities in the delivery phase.

The project consisted of major earthworks for the Western Sydney International Airport and involved moving around 25 million cubic metres of earth over the 1,780-hectare site to support the construction of the runway, terminal and auxiliary facilities.Key responsibilities included:•Lead the Infrastructure Sustainability Council (ISC) design round 2 and As Built rating.•Work with construction teams to ensure the project sustainability requirements and targets are incorporated into the project delivery and to advise on sustainability issues.•Completion of regular reporting and auditing including subcontractor audits.•Developed strong communication skills to deliver sustainability principles and initiatives in an accessible way to a wide range of audiences including project team, client, project suppliers and independent ISC verifiers.Key achievements included:•Certification of ISC Design with an ‘Excellent’ rating.•Completion of the ISC Round 1 As Built rating submission and preparation of the final Round 2 submission.•Implementation and management of multiple sustainability initiatives to test efficacy and develop business cases for or against. These included a solar powered generator trial, trial of alternate fuel which was later rolled out project wide, and trial of a fuel catalyst that claimed increased fuel efficiencies.•Significant improvements in office waste recovery performance.•Implementation of heritage initiatives despite the limitations of a project with no operational elements. These included a temporary geoglyph installed alongside the runway, heritage cabinet to display replicas of the artefacts found during salvage works, acknowledgement of country signage, and educational resources to be utilised at the WSA experience centre.•Opportunity to share knowledge on multiple platforms including presentation of a verified world first at the 2021 ISAP day innovation panel.

A role that included management of both environment and sustainability risks on the CBD and Southeast Light Rail (CSELR) project. The project delivered a light rail system across a 12km alignment including 19 stops, extending from Circular Quay to Moore Park via Central and on to Randwick and Kingsford.Key responsibilities included:•Regular internal inspections and monthly inspections with the environmental representative (ER).•Development of environmental control maps (ECMs) and out of hours works (OOHW) permits.•Monitoring of environmental risks including water discharge, vibration, air quality and noise emissions for construction (accordance with the Construction Noise and Vibration Impact Statement).•Lead the Infrastructure Sustainability Council (ISC) design round 2 and As Built rating.•Lead the Transport for NSW (TfNSW) Sustainable Design Guidelines (SDGs) rating.•Review and development of project sustainability plans.•Managed GHG emission tracking, monitoring of all procured materials, waste, energy, fuel and water consumption. including collation and tracking of subcontractor reporting.•Promotion of sustainability best practice within and outside the Sydney Light Rail Project.•Engagement with Aboriginal groups to develop lasting and meaningful interpretation and enhancement of Aboriginal heritage.Key achievements included:•Verification of 4 Australian first innovations including a wireless ‘Aesthetic Power Supply’ (APS) system, geothermal air-conditioning, a braking energy recovery ‘Harmonic and Energy Saving Optimiser (HESOP)’ system and Permanent Magnetic Motor (PMM) design implemented on the Light Rail vehicles.•Certification of ISC Design with an ‘Excellent’ rating.•Certification of the ISC As Built with a ‘Leading’ rating, exceeding the contractually required score of 65 by more than 10 points.•Achieved a platinum TfNSW Sustainable Design Guideline score for the project.

Geo Carbon services is an environmental markets investor and project developer striving to achieve sustainable environmental benefits through the Australian Carbon Credit Unit abatement programme. This programme places value on the environment allowing markets to provide incentives for sustainable environmental practices.Projects included avoided deforestation, avoided clearing of native regrowth and human-induced regeneration.• Field work included land assessments to determine vegetation type and density across the project. This included validation of carbon extrapolation factors at each property with randomly selected sample specimens from allometry plots assessed in the initial stage of the property survey.• Key responsibilities included accurate measurement and documentation of vegetation data from 10 by 50 metre transects, maintaining responsible work and safety practices in remote environments, implementation of effective teamwork strategies and competent communication with office team in Sydney.• The technical analyst role focused on native regrowth and human-induced regeneration projects. This involved the development and execution of models to determine regrowth of native vegetation to be included in the Carbon Farming Scheme.Key achievements included:• Efficient data quality assurance, data analysis and statistics in compliance with the required methodology.• Management of survey data and coordination with Geospatial team, preparation of offset reports and monthly field trips for accurate data collection.• Participation in regular auditing to ensure the quality and reliability of results.• Management of key risks such as heat stress, venomous snake encounters and hunter activity in the vicinity of the field works.
