-I focused on improving health literacy by breaking down complex research papers and summarizing their findings by writing easy-to-grasp articles that were made available to the public on the MSO website. By publishing concise, simple articles, my goal was to educate the general public on how to take better care of themselves, leading to a healthier, happier generation. -By analyzing several research papers I was able to improve my reading and critical thinking skills of research experiments and learned how to communicate their results. -I have published a total of four articles on the MSO website.

-Worked independently in a fast-pace lab to study the chemical nature of 1,2,3 Trichloropropane (a common ingredient present in pesticides) and develop an environmentally friendly method of breaking down this toxic compound in our water supply.-Responsibilities included creating solutions of various concentrations to check for solubility, running reactions with various reactants and then analyzing chemical breakdown using a high-performance liquid chromatography and gas chromatography. I was also involved in developing and modifying the existing study protocol to troubleshoot problems as they arose to improve results.

-Worked alongside a postdoctoral research fellow and 3 other undergraduate research assistants in the RNC Study and the YES! Program. The RNC study looked at the effects of various concentrations of nicotine on the cognitive abilities of participants. The YES! Program studied how participation in the Youth Empowerment Seminar affected adolescents who used marijuana compared to healthy controls.-Responsibilities included: recruitment, telephone screeners, conducting patient visits, administering cognitive tasks using MATLAB and questionnaires, analyzing urine tests, preparing blood samples for storage, and data entry-This experience has enhanced my understanding of clinical research and how its findings can be used to treat addictive behaviors.

-Worked alongside 3 medical assistants, a RN, and a M.D. to help patients get through their visits as efficiently as possible. -Job responsibilities at this internship included vitaling patients, writing up patient’s medical histories for the doctor, performing electrocardiograms (EKGs) & bio-electrical impedance analysis (BIA), tracking patient weight loss progress, checking patient insurance policies/eligibility, paperwork, scanning and organizing patient documents, delivering test specimens to the laboratory, and analyzing urine tests. - I also had the opportunity to shadow the practicing physician and learn about common conditions presented by patients and their treatment options.
