I have been a committed ornithologist for 30 years and have worked as an Ornithologist at E3 Ecology for 16 years and Senior Field Ornithologist since 2011. I estimate that since 2008, I have completed over 4,000 bird surveys, such as vantage point surveys, coastal surveys of Special Protections Areas and breeding bird surveys. I work in a team environment with a range of clients to report on results, impact assessment and mitigation on projects such as proposed wind farms, quarry extensions and large-scale housing estates.I am currently a member of the British Ornithologists' Union Records Committee, the Durham Records Committee and BBRC statistician. I have excellent field ornithological skills and deep knowledge and experience of the ecology of birds. I gained a bird ringing C-permit in 2015 and hold a protected species license. I am an enthusiastic advocate of digital technologies for data recording and analysis, particularly field-based GIS software, QGIS and R.My contributions to ornithology at a local level include my position on the Durham Bird Club Records Committee, while contributions at a national level include publications in journals such as British Birds. I completed an MPhil degree at Newcastle University in 2016, which researched the ecology and habitat selection of Brent Geese wintering at Lindisfarne NNR, Northumberland.First bird records include first national records of Franklin's Gull in Kazakhstan and Black-headed Heron in Saudi Arabia, plus the first county record of Little Bunting in Bedfordshire.I am looking for ecological consultancy work from March 2019 onwards.
