Kinetrol Ltd is small privately owned design and manufacturing company in control engineering. With a continuing expanding product range in control modules which is led by a small design and development team of 10. Kinetrol exports 70% of products worldwide, on expansive and varying applications.- Designed and developed a new stainless steel electro-pneumatic valve controlling product for the food market. Had to develop manufacturing techniques to meet the design brief.- Executed extensive material and airflow research to replace an existing pneumatic silencer on a Kinetrol product by the request of an European customer.- Delivering design review reports on selected products through the review of design, assemblies, manufacture and performance. Reports submitted to Senior Management with definitive technical actions to improve the product. - Continually refining and developing existing products or components to enhance performance for their desired application.- Designed to industry standards; IP65, IP66, ATEX, EX, EC and FM.- Issued production ready drawings to BS308 / BS8888 standards of complex die cast/investment casting/sand casting components. - Generation of product literature and technical data and communicating directly to other business locations and clients from around the globe.- Thorough understanding of metals, plastics and rubbers and associated manufacturing techniques.

For the final segment of my Industrial Placement I was given a position within the Advanced Technology Team, which provides the innovative edge of the company through research and development of new showering technology.- FDM and CNC prototyping to develop and evaluate products/components for manufacture, assembly and performance. - Developed a temperature sensitive shut off valve for the European leisure industry based on my understanding of fluid mechanics.- Integral member of a DFMA team that applied extensive testing methods of different materials and assembly techniques for the development of a new shower product.

Following on from my Summer Placement, I was offered a years Industrial Placement. Working alongside a number of Engineers within the Product Support Department who's responsibilities were to showering products being used in the 'field' or assembled on site.- Performing analytical studies on electrical and mechanical shower products and components through fluid, mechanical and electrical testing within environmental test chambers.- Translating logged test data into a analytic report with conclusions and proposed design solutions.- Completing DFMA studies to improve current showering products i.e. reduction of parts.- Respond to failures in the field and/or assembly line with prompt corrective action by the means of a design/engineering solution.

Secured a University Summer Placement at a market leading and highly innovative showing companyWorking within New Product Development Department alongside Designers and Engineers, working on new products. - Providing CAD (3D & 2D) support on a wide range of electronically and mechanically controlled showing solutions, from complex injection moulded plastic fascias to die cast valve bodies.- Liaising with project 'Sub Design Teams' to ensure components/assemblies fit tobrief.- 2D drawings (new & revisions) of complex parts and assemblies to specific drawing standards.

The final half of my years placement was within the New Product Evaluation Team. Responsible for the evaluation of a variety of plastic and metal latching devises by the means of mechanical and electrical test apparatus. Thereafter, analysing the tests results and formalising reports concluding the effects on the material and the mechanical systemDesign of static and cycle test fixtures for use under different environmental and operational conditions. Design of highly accurate component holding jigs to hold differing products whilst on a coordinate measuring machine (CMM).

Forming part of a year placement prior to beginning my studies at University, I began my professional career within a manufacturing engineering department. This formed a strong grounding from the outset to understand how 'things' are made and the challenges to faced realise the vision of the Product Development Team and whilst working within the feasible constraints of Manufacture. Implemented manufacturing efficiencies on a number of production lines through the design and development of semi-automated pneumatic assembly fixtures for mid to high volume in parallel with generating factory schematic layouts to improve process flows within product areas (cells) and the facility as a whole (materials in - product out). Involved at a Global Business level, coordinating with a number of key stakeholders from UK and/or US offices to obtain collective approval (or not) for any technical product changes proposed by business.
