Partner of Resource Capital Funds responsible for the Private Equity Mature Funds. Since 2001, a valuable contributor in building the firm which pioneered the concept of mining private equity. Responsible for managing a highly qualified team of investment professionals to evaluate and manage an extensive portfolio of over 180 mining investments globally and diversified by commodity and stage of development. Have performed fundraising for the firm including raising approximately $4.9 billion and managing relationships with over 200 investors. Over 35 years of experience, providing both technical and financial evaluation and support in project identification, analysis, development, valuation, project finance, M&A and sourcing of capital from both private and public markets. Extensive Board experience having served on 12 companies including 7 public and 5 private companies. Served as Chairman of the Board of Molycorp, taking it through a successful IPO and listing it on the NYSE. Born in Socorro, New Mexico and raised in a mining family. Completed Ph.D degree in Mineral Economics at the Colorado School of Mines, and B.S. and M.S. degrees in Metallurgical Engineering at the University of Arizona. Began professional career with Cyprus Minerals Company in Denver and Miami, Arizona before joining Newmont Mining Corporation in Denver. Served in both technical and financial roles with both companies. Gained substantial expertise in copper concentrate marketing while at Newmont. Served as CEO of GTN Copper Corporation for 3 years with a focus on acquiring and redeveloping the Cyprus Tahono Copper Project (formerly knowd as Lakeshore) in Arizona prior to joining Resource Capital Funds in 2001. Avid golfer, skier and philanthropist.
