The Integrated Therapeutic Community (ITC) is a model of Youth Residential Rehabilitation, supporting young people 16-25 years with significant mental health and complex support needs. Combining Box Hill South and Wantirna South services into one integrated program, the service offers a range of evidence informed 1:1 and group supports. Melbourne City Mission operate several youth refuge programs in and around Melbourne, operating as part of the Opening Doors Framework. These refuges provide 6-8 weeks of crisis accommodation support to young people aged 16-24, with an emphasis on connecting them into further support and addressing their complex needs.Duties and achievements include: • Building an effective working rapport with young clients who present a range of difficult behaviours, while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.• Supporting clients with a range of complex needs, including unemployment, trauma, mental illness, family violence, legal issues and others.• Participating in the upkeep of refuge facilities, including communal client areas.• Providing meal preparation support for refuge clients, with an emphasis on promoting living skills development.• Engaging in thorough documentation and case noting processes across multiple management platforms, including Specialist Homelessness Information Platform (SHIP), RiskMan, and the Opening Doors Framework.• Liaising with external services in various fields to provide support and referral for clients.• Managing refuge sites independently during overnight shifts.

EACH's Integrated Therapeutic Community (ITC) provides a 12 month residentially based mental health support service for young people aged 16-25 years old recovering from significant mental health conditions. Participants work on their individual recovery goals whilst actively engaging in a youth focused therapeutic community environment. Through this 10 week practical placement I participated in and observed all aspects of service delivery. Through observation I developed my skills in one to one key work contexts, observing key workers engaging with their clients to develop and work on Individual Recovery Plans. I participated in the planning, facilitation and review of several different group programs for clients, working in collaboration with Headspace Knox. I took a significant role in the redesign of client feedback measures, improving the data collection and analysis capacities of the program to assist in future planning and evaluation.

EACH's Mental Health Specialist Recovery program provides community based outreach support for people aged 16-64 years with a severe and enduring psychiatric condition. The support provided focuses on connecting clients with services and housing opportunities, as well as recreation and self-development programs, employment, and any other support needed to help the client live independently in the community.This 200 hour practical placement equipped me with a wealth of experience in working within a recovery focused mental health context. I was able to observe and participate in one to one goals focused support sessions in an outreach context, along with recovery oriented group programs. Through this position, I worked closely with several clinical mental health services, including the Maroondah Adult Mental Health Inpatient Unit, and Maroondah PARC.
