There are many reasons why I enjoy teaching EAL. Firstly I advocate a positive learning environment, to activate participatory learning from the students. An environment that integrates, peer feedback & support (to inject a sense of community and purpose). By achieving this I believe that it helps to reduce anxiety, supports greater risk-taking thus stimulating authentic communication amongst the students allowing for a more enriched learning experience. I encourage children and take a pedagogical rather than punitive approach to error correction. I am responsible in maintaining a motivational and dynamic learning space, which whenever possible will include displays of exemplary work by the children, as well as providing visual clues and vocabulary to boost the learning development of the current EAL scheme or topic. From this I understand the importance of working collaboratively, motivating those around you, and enabling achievement.I have taught a range of years from adult learning to primary and secondary child education, which I have taught through, thematic approaches and as individual subjects. I have pride in giving outstanding lessons that are purposeful, creative, engaging and challenging for all abilities. I use formal and informal assessment to raise the attainment of student I am teaching. This gives me a fuller understanding of their strengths and where they need to be supported. I then implement this into my planning so I know that each child is being fully supported and challenged. I am aware of the importance of raising standards and attainment across the Curriculum and do this while keeping my teaching, child centered and holistic. I am experienced in writing IEP’s and IBP’s for children with Special Educational Needs and English as an Additional Language.I bring enthusiasm, dedication and innovation to the role and pride myself in being very adaptable in all situations, with this in mind I welcome the prospect to work in any curriculum.

With the support from Victory Heights Learning Enhancement Department I am proud to have developed and implemented a learning program that uses a combination of in-class support and withdrawal intervention throughout the year. Children are taught in small groups (within the year group whenever possible), to encourage social as well as formal language acquisition.
