I decided to expand my successful contracting business into a fully-fledged development house. We are concentrating on the tech end of the spectrum, while forging partnerships with high quality design companies for that side of the work. Most of our new work is PHP, .NET and we're still supporting ColdFusion for a major client with a lot of legacy apps. At the moment we are trying to get a foot in the door with large companies by demoing to their HR departments a CPD Recording/Planning system that we developed with the British Psychological Society.

A spin-off project from SteamDesk in which all the key players are directors. Acorn Dash is a scaleable and flexible job, project and client management package, aimed squarely at agencies with a need for strong accountabillity with detailed client feedback mechanisms. Acorn Dash is the culmination of 20+ years of growth and development of our in-house management software.

I worked for Safelincs on a half-time basis for a few years while spending the other half of my time as a software contractor, this enabled me to remain living at home all of the time while my children were young, rather than having to do the occasional weekly commute to work out of the area on a contract.

I worked as a contract programmer/consultant for nearly 10 years, for a wide range of clients, from SMEs to blue chips. During this period I was exposed to a huge range of technologies. I specialised in stepping in to repair and develop legacy apps for clients who had fallen out with the original suppliers of the apps.

Coventry/Montreal

At the time I was a director of The Image Workshop Ltd, and a founding partner in West 10 Ltd. We were taken on by Kaleden.com to develop their online auctions systems, eventually supplying a full-time 6 man development team based in our offices in Coventry. We were competing in a fresh marketplace with other relative newcomers including eBay, iCollector, etc. Sadly Kaleden became one of the also-rans when eBay swept up, but during my time there I learned a huge amount about early adopter advantage, targeted development, and so on.
