This feeds real world data to our ‘Pathway to Zero’ platform allowing building owners to plan their refurbishment strategy in line with PAS 2035 and a decarbonising grid.My responsibilities include:• UK wide policy engagement covering the construction and energy infrastructure sectors via working groups at the National Retrofit Hub, Wales Zero Carbon Hwb, National Zero Carbon Buildings Standard Task Group, Future Homes Hub, Building Performance Network.• Managing innovation projects such as Warm Rents which explores how smart technologies can be used to combine rent with healthy indoor environments, plus Optimised Retrofit which sees 26 Welsh social landlords retrofitting 3000+ homes in stages to net zero carbon.

This role has developed my understanding of how technical, commercial and policy innovations can be used to launch a successful new company able to disrupt an existing marketplace.My achievements included:• Mapping the traditional residential retrofit supply chain and developing a market changing alternative model focusing on actual energy savings • Researching and developing a suite of tools and protocols; ranging from initial estate technical risk assessments, detailed condition surveys and retrofit package analysis, to contractor training and site quality control• Educating and motivating a diverse group of ex-military engineers and recently graduated architectural students into a highly skilled, creative and collaborative housing retrofit team.

This role significantly expanded my knowledge of the innovations required to revolutionise residential retrofit activities.My achievements included:• Leading retrofit research and design projects in both full scale test facilities and live construction sites• Representing the EURIMA technical committee on the CEN TC89 WG13 ‘In-situ thermal performance of construction products, building elements and structures’ standards group• Representing Knauf Insulation on the IEA Annex 71 ‘Building energy performance assessment based on in situ measurements’ research project.

The Zero Carbon Hub was a not-for-profit organisation jointly funded by the UK Government and private sector. Its purpose was to research and define the introduction of zero carbon new build homes from 2016 onwards. This role helped refine my ability to operate at the highest level of consultancy with government ministers, leading civil servants and private sector board members.My achievements included:• Lead editor for the Zero Carbon Hub ‘Performance Gap’ Task Group report. The project aimed to understand causes for the difference between a building’s ‘designed’ and ‘as-built’ energy performance. By engaging with government and more than 160 industry experts from across 90 companies, a range of solutions were proposed for future regulation and business models.• Financially overseeing all of the Zero Carbon Hub finances and reporting at Board Level.

This role developed my ability to manage large, high profile research projects and lead teams, often from a variety of organisations, in an inspirational and efficient manner.My achievements included:• Project managing the £6.4 million ‘AIM C4’ project researching and constructing highly energy efficient new homes. In addition to technical innovations this project majored on supply chain innovations.• Technical Lead for the Zero Carbon Hub 2016 ‘Fabric Energy Efficiency Standard’ and ‘Carbon Compliance’ Task Groups. Consulting across the UK residential new build industry in preparation for future regulatory changes in 2013 and 2016.

Inbuilt is an innovative design and research consultancy providing sustainable built environments. This position developed my ability to work in a collaborative manner with both highly creative architects and deeply technical engineers in a commercially viable way.My achievements included:• Developing outline planning stage energy and sustainability statements for new build developments• Training for Pinpoint Facilitation, thermal junction modelling and Passiv Haus Planning Package.
