I am working as a Sector Executive at Wool Impact to increase the demand and value for New Zealand strong wool. We want to change the perception of strong wool in how it is used and valued and return it to being a profitable part of our farming systems.We are working in partnership across the strong wool value chain, domestically and overseas, to deliver work that will realise new opportunities and overcome the barriers for strong wool and deliver key sector services.

This role required working on the establishment and delivery of a new fund as part of the $1.3 billion Jobs for Nature programme. The Ministry for the Environment is responsible for delivering $500 million of this portfolio to improve freshwater and the new fund will deliver the last phase of this funding. Establishment of the fund includes developing the processes and products required to support the engagement, application, assessment/approval, contracting and management stages of delivery. Delivery of the fund will involve working directly with on-the-ground organisations such as Regional Councils, catchment groups, industry groups, and iwi/hapū, to help shape and implement projects toimprove New Zealand’s waterways and improve employment opportunities. It will also involve working with cross-agency staff and senior leaders governing the programme.

The focus of the Sustainable Food & Fibre Futures (SFF Futures) fund is to invest in innovative projects and programmes that will create more value from New Zealand's food and fibre industries. The Investment Manager oversees a portfolio of long-term, multi-million dollar programmes, from the contracting stages and implementation, through to programme completion and evaluation. The role involves day-to-day engagement with the SFF Futures programme co-investors, programme management and an active role in a governance group for each programme to oversees its strategic direction, and to ensure delivery of the programme objectives and associated benefits.The role also requires reporting of progress to internal and external stakeholders, including Ministers.Projects and programmes could be about developing new products or services, or ideas for creating new jobs, increasing skills and capability, or encouraging better collaboration and information sharing. They can range from small, one-off initiatives requiring a small grant, to long-running, multi-million-dollar partnerships.SFF Futures supports projects from all over New Zealand, created by businesses, non-government organisations, researchers, training institutions, Māori landowners, community groups, and industry bodies. Applications are expected to prioritise value over volume.
