I am an experienced Principal Teacher (Faculty Head) of Social Sciences in a high-attaining public school in Scotland. I am responsible for attainment, learning and teaching, and curriculum design in Geography, History, Modern Studies/Politics, RMPS (RE), Philosophy, and other skills-based awards. During this time I have effectively developed the capacity of a number of colleagues and raised standards within my areas of responsibility.My previous role was in Pupil Support (Guidance/Pastoral Care), where I led Team Around the Child (TAC) meetings in partnership with Educational Psychology, Social Services, and parents/carers. I effectively helped to coordinate and support young people with their academic needs, mental health, and securing positive destinations (e.g. employment, college, or university places.)I have tutored both privately and with organisations affiliated with my local University. Privately, I have tutored Philosophy and RMPS from National to Advanced Higher level (equivalent of GSCE and A-Level.) I have also tutored foreign students (adults and adolescents) through the Cambridge English Qualifications model (A1-C2 level.) I have carried out my tutoring responsibilities effectively over the years by helping many individuals achieve their target grades.Along with my undergraduate degree (2002-2006) and PGDE teaching qualification (2006-2007), I completed two Postgraduate Diplomas in Educational Leadership in 2011, and Physical Education in 2012. This has provided me with a wider skill set in leading others and a broadened knowledge and experience in teaching another curricular area that focuses on health and well-being.Recently, I completed 40 credits at university which allows me to provisionally register and teach History. I now teach History at National level (equivalent to GSCE level) which has again broadened my skill-set and overall curriculum knowledge.I also have 10 years of experience working for the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA), marking the exam in both Higher Philosophy and RMPS (the equivalent of A-Level.) I am also responsible for delivering Advanced Higher in RMPS (beyond A-Level) remotely across my local authority. This has enabled me to be robust in my quality assurance and overall levels of attainment.I am interested in the Psychology of learning, which I believe is all about engagement, building relationships, discovering what methods work for the learner, and habit formation. Overall, I am passionate about developing others and helping them achieve a high degree of purpose and self-worth.
