I have been a primary school teacher for almost 20 years. I strongly believe in the educational and social value of play in early years education and the importance of a trauma informed approach to teaching. I am an experienced NGB board member (6. Years across two sports) with an expertise in Safeguarding and supporting change and transition within an NGB. I have helped review and develop NGB’s strategic plans and supported the monitoring of progress towards key strategic objectives. I have developed strong working relationships with partnership organisations, using their resource to be as well informed as possible when considering action. Previous to that I was the chair of Salle Holyrood fencing club as it grew to become the biggest fencing club in Scotland and established itself as one of the premier foil clubs in the UK. I run two after school sports clubs (archery and Fencing) in an area of social deprivation (SMI 1-2) where I have tried to embedded the Changing Lives principles to create a safe space for all. We try to engage those children for whom traditional support is more challenging and take referrals from partner organisations. Ultimately I believe in supporting good people to do good things. I feel this fits very well with the Scottish Archery vision of building inclusive, fun and collaborative archery communities. As interim Chair and a board member for the last 16 months I am very aware of the current landscape of archery in Scotland and the particular challenges facing the organisation going forward. The core beliefs of the organisation should shine through its’ actions, listening and working with all members to deliver an inclusive, innovative and ever improving experience for all those involved in the sport whatever the level.
