Planning ConsultantTurner & Townsend Apr 2015 - Jul 2018United KingdomSeconded to Magnox Ltd as a planning/risk consultant. See below. -
Project Planner - Magnox CommissionTurner & Townsend Apr 2015 - Jul 2018HarwellThis secondment evolved into several different roles, originally planning/risk engineer in a roving team on the decommissioning baseline across the Magnox fleet. As part of the Life Time Plan reset I produced Level 3 schedules for work packages between £1m > £50m. I was also responsible for running Risk Analysis and advising on suitable contingency in each work pack, and worked closely with others in the team who were responsible for scope and cost. The agreed product went on to form the baseline to be delivered to the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority. Later on in this role I was also responsible for assurance on work produced by other teams. The most interesting work package I was responsible for was the Final Site Clearance, scheduled to finish in 2127, costing £1.2bn.During my second year working for Magnox, I was based at the Harwell site, running earned value reporting on ongoing decommissioning projects, with the monthly outputs going to the regulator. I also supported teams as a shutdown planner for short intense periods.A third year at Sizewell A site saw me being more construction-orientated. Being also responsible for planning daily on-site activities by teams of sub-contractors, and representing my team in the works controls and permissioning processes. -
Reserve Infantry SoldierBritish Army May 2015 - Apr 2018I spent evenings and weekends doing something different and pushing myself as an army reservist with 7th Rifles Battalion. -
Junior PlannerKbr, Inc. Aug 2014 - Mar 2015Leatherhead, England, United KingdomAs a junior planner, I worked on home-office engineering projects alongside other planners to take joint responsibility for all planning elements, producing schedules of work during the bid; implement planning, progress reporting, and document tracking systems during the project-setup phase; and then track progress and create combined planning/cost Earned Value reporting throughout the engineering work. Alongside this I develop schedules for the future phases of work, from high level EPC to detailed commissioning. -
Project Controls GraduateKbr, Inc. Sep 2012 - Aug 2014LeatherheadI was the youngest to win a space on the prestigious 2 year graduate scheme at Kellogg, Brown & Root, consisting of rotations across four teams: Estimating, Planning, Cost, and Risk Management. The role often involved striking up working relations with large teams of lead engineers very quickly, to keep them on-side with project controls, and understand what they needed. The role further requires strong data analysis in order to create meaningful reports that can help project management and client teams make informed decisions.During this role I've learnt to use all the features of Primavera P6 and can happily work in complex schedules. I've also used Acumen Fuse to analyse the integrity of schedules in terms of float, loose-ends, cyclical logic, constraints, and critical path.Once satisfied with the integrity of a schedule I'm able to risk-analyse it using pertmaster to apply monte-carlo simulation to come up with probablistic completion dates for P10, P50, P90 etc. I've got first hand experience of combining this Schedule Risk Info with Cost Risk Info to come up with a contingency figure depending on risk appetite.Included a 4 month placement to Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia, producing estimates for volumes of work on their Aramco framework. -
Research AssistantOwnergy Jul 2009 - Sep 2010OxfordshireAlongside university I worked for a renewable energy startup creating all their initial feasibility reports for micro-renewables installations. In each case I would be given a grid reference, from which I could use various sources on average wind speeds, temperatures, UV exposure, rainfall, and satelite imaging to calculate the likely income of various renewable technologies under the government Feed-in-Tariffs and Renewable Heat Incentive.
