Principal Scientist / Process Development ManagerI led the protein production and quality control team, dealing with national and internationalclients in the pharmaceutical, diagnostic, cosmetic, food and agrochemical sectors.As a member of the senior management team, I reported directly to the CEO and helped to shape the scientific strategy for the business. Alongside developing and costing project proposals and collaboration agreements, Iundertook contract negotiations, drafted quotations and managed commercial projects. I led three ongoing external collaborations with pharmaceutical, biotechnology and academic organisations.

As an APS within the global RAD group I had a varied and challenging role. My core deliveries were focused on designing, expressing and purifying high quality protein reagents to fuel the early lead discovery pipeline (Oncology, Neuroscience and Infection focussed). Outside of my core discipline I developed a strong foundation in protein crystallisation, biophysical characterisation and assay development through hands-on training and close collaboration with these key partners. I held numerous project management roles and initiated exciting external collaborations with The University of Nottingham (nanoparticle drug delivery) and University of Southern California (covalent protein kinase inhibition). In addition, I recruited and line managed a small team of postdoctoral scientists and undergraduates tasked with developing new methods of purifying and modifying cell-derived extracellular vesicles for therapeutic protein delivery and gene modification.

Research Assistant within the Division of Cell Biology with Dr John Kilmartin. During this time, the Kilmartin lab was studying the functional analysis of novel proteins involved during mitosis in both S. cerevisiae and S. pombe. Key responsibilities included designing cloning strategies for tagging and knocking out essential genes using GFP or antibiotic markers, and the creation of temperature sensitive mutant yeast strains.
