as a Quantity Surveyor/Estimator for a Joinery/Dry Lining Contractor, currently split between office based and site based activities. At present, a large percentage of my time is spent producing estimates for varying project values ranging from £10,000 to £2,500,000. This was my first professional post following successfully completing my basic degree from University; I subsequently completed my honours year on a part-time basis following joining this company.Pre-tender: At the pre-tender stages of projects, I assisted senior colleagues in the measurement and cost planning processes which included regular liaison with designers to ensure that the projects adhered to the necessary budgets therefore often value engineering required to take place. Once the project was given formal approval to proceed, I assisted with the preparation of bills of quantities for all trades and was thereafter tasked with checking the returned priced bills and ultimately the appointment of the main contractor.Post-tender / Construction phase: I was tasked with the checking and preparation of valuations/variations as well as regular cost reporting to the client throughout the contract period. Finally, I was involved in the final account negotiations which included regular meetings with the main contractor and the full measurement and certification of their proposed variation account.Typical Duties UndertakenPreparation of monthly valuations.Preparation of cost reports.Take offs and site measurements.Final account negotiations.
