About Ross Allmark

Across two decades spent navigating the choppy waters of the creative and cultural industries, my journey has taken me from the cutting edge of live music (The Old Blue Last, Birthdays, VICE Events), through the fast-paced world of startups and product launches (DICE, Old Blue Last Beer), to leveraging everything I’ve learned along the way first as an in-house consultant (Virtue, Vice Media Group) and now as an independent practitioner with a focus on business transformation, operations and technology with my own company, Creative Grid.In these roles, my point of difference has always been that I’m as fascinated by the theories and frameworks that enable commercial and organisational excellence as I am immersed in the organic culture in which creativity thrives. As I’ve entered the second half of my career, I have found my practice organically shifting from that of a leader to something much more akin to a practitioner-coach, bringing me closer to what truly lights up my day: raising up others as they embark on their own journeys in creativity and commerce.I do this by combining the collaborative, human-centred methodology of a coach with the data-driven insights of a consultant and the hard-won lessons of a seasoned business operations practitioner to deliver bespoke, transformative programs to creative businesses. The aim is to level up your business, leaving you and your organisation perfectly positioned to win. Here are some areas where I can help your business:- Product Innovation: Creating innovative products to meet market demands and drive growth.- Business Operations Frameworks: Using Traction, Lean, Scale Up, OKRs, and 4DE for efficiency and growth.- Business Process Design: Enhancing productivity through efficient workflows and procedures.- Design Thinking: Solving complex problems with human-centred, innovative solutions.- Agile Methodology: Delivering flexible, user-focused outcomes with adaptable project management.- Change Management: Leading smooth transitions using proven change management frameworks.- Group Facilitation: Optimising group dynamics through effective collaborative sessions.- Stakeholder Management: Building strong relationships with executives, clients, and teams.- Systems Implementation: Integrating technology for seamless operations and improved processes.- Program & Project Management: Managing projects from start to finish, aligning with strategic goals. If you think I can help, please don’t hesitate to set up an initial discovery call via the Creative Grid website, or drop me a message on here.

This tenure was marked by navigating the company through periods of significant upheaval, including leadership transitions, Chapter 11 bankruptcy, and the eventual sale of the business. These challenges underscored the importance of resilience, flexibility, and the ability to secure positive outcomes under pressure, including:• Strategic ERP Overhaul: Orchestrated a comprehensive evaluation of our complex, costly ERP system, devising a streamlined roadmap for technology reduction. This strategic initiative is on course to save the company over $2 million annually within a two-year period.• Process Playbook for Content Partnerships: Developed an in-depth playbook covering the full lifecycle of content partnerships, from ideation through to archiving. This playbook has become essential for managing and enhancing the efficiency and creativity of such projects.• Change Management Leadership: Instituted company-wide change management frameworks, fostering a culture of continuous improvement. This initiative ensured cohesive change management processes across the organisation, enabling consistent growth and adaptability.• Strategic Business Repositioning: Led the strategic redefinition of VMG's value proposition and product suite to align with the evolving needs of our clients, focusing on a more upstream selling model. This involved deep collaboration with cross-functional leadership teams to propose a comprehensive organisational restructuring.• Organisational Strategy: Focused on aligning VMG's operational and strategic goals with market dynamics and client expectations. This effort involved reimagining our service offerings and internal structures to reduce complexity and empower teams. Sadly, these last two points differed from our new owner's vision. Show less
