Responsible for the Level III (Senior) Microsoft support team at Attenda. The team looked after 130+ enterprise clients consisting of internal IT systems and large scale ecommerce deployments including many household names. Covering all Microsoft server technologies (Windows, SQL, BizTalk, Exchange etc) and infrastructure including Cisco Network (Switching, Firewalls & Content Switching), Storage (3PAR SAN, EVA San, NetAPP San/NAS) and Backups.In addition to the managerial responsibilities of looking after the team, I was also a technical mentor and escalation point for the engineers.Initially taking on a team of 5 engineers and growing this to a team of 12 over the course of 18 months.

As a Platform Architect I was deployed to multiple projects being worked on by Conchango (EMC Consulting). My role was to deliver the technical bridge between the solution infrastructure and the development team.There were 3 different situations in which I would be deployed:Pre Sales:Engaging with major clients to understand the infrastructure requirements for forthcoming projects. These included Play.com, River Island, Tesco Digital and Barclays.Deliver high level and complex design documents to the client and business for sign off.Work with the development teams to understand their requirements and attempt to match those with those of the client.Project StartupWorking with the development teams to build suitable development, test and staging environments for the project.Working on RFP's for hosting partners and engaging with them to find a suitable supplier.Supporting the development teams during the build phase.Configuring continuous build and deployment services.General technical go to for the project team.Project Problem Solving:If there were technical issues on any project where they felt my skills would be of help, I would be deployed for a short while to assist to get the project back on track.

A consultant role where I was brought in to help resolve ongoing issues with the client platform which had grown organically and been developer lead.As part of the 5 month contract in this start up company, I resolved large scale issues with the enterprise infrastructure (Active Directory, Exchange, SQL and networking) and worked to deliver robust technical solutions going forwards.These included delivering an Exchange 2010 cluster, SQL 2005 with replication to our new New York office, new office domains and group policies and an office VPN for remote workers to aide productivity.

A consulting role where I was brought in to support the entire Cisco network infrastructure for Honda UK after their lead network engineer had left.On a daily basis this involved fault finding within the network and keeping the 5000 users connected to it up and running. There were 3 major sites to support and numerous satellite sites to keep connected via ISDN or the MPLS cloud.In addition to the on going support of the network I also initiated the project to replace the expensive MPLS network provider with a a VPN solution and less expensive leased lines.

Working in the Level III (Senior) Microsoft support team at Attenda I was the final escalation point for client technical issues.Looking after the enterprise infrastructures for 130+ clients, working on all technologies involved (Server, Application, Network, Storage, DNS etc). Consistently working on one client problem, and then having to work on a completely different client 15 minutes later, which is a rare opportunity in the server support arena and gives you a great insight into all problems that can been seen with certain technologies.

Responsible for all aspects of IT on the McLaren F1 Race Team.I travelled with the team to every location on the Formula 1 race calendar and delivered the IT systems required for the race weekend. This involved designing the rugged systems required for the harsh garage environements, deploying the servers and infrastructure into the garage, supporting all race engineers and servers during the race weekend and bringing the servers back to Woking afterwards.I was the only IT personell track side and as such learnt how to work under massive pressure and to be extremely creative in my problem solving.The technologies that I looked after were:Windows Server (2000/2003)SQL (2000/2005)Various custom McLaren applicationsCisco VPNCisco Networking (Switching & Routing - Copper & Fabric)WAN Optimisation EquipmentVOIPDesktop support of Windows XPDuring my time on the race team, I built (using Delphi) a solution which allows the robust file copy (via MSMQ) of car telemetry data files back to the head office automatically during race sessions. This is still used today (Jan 2010).In addition to my support duties, I was also ran car telemetry for Pedro De La Rosa and Alex Wurz during their 3rd car testing sessions in the 2005 season.

This role required me to be extremely creative and learn quickly, everything had to be delivered to extremely tight time scales which left no room for error.I joined at the start of the McLaren Mercedes SLR project when the company was split across 2 offices and had circa 60 staff. After 2 years, the same team of 3 was supporting over 400 staff over 4 sites.Heavily involved in the design and deployment of the IT architecture for the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking. including:Windows Server - Design & DeploymentActive Directory - Design, Migration (from NT Domain), GPO & Login Scripts (KIXX & VBS).File & Print ClusteringCisco Wireless Network Design & DeploymentCustom build of SLR line side production systems.Migrated all desktop users to Windows XP (Utilising RIS)Migrated all users over from an NT domain using VBA scripting and constantly developed and deployed efficiency tools to the business for IT support purposes.

My first role in IT after college. I worked in a team of 8 people delivering first line desktop support to 5000 Nokia staff within the UK and Ireland.Logging calls for issues and attempting to talk end users through fixing desktop related issues with Windows NT/2000 and its associated applications. Failing a successful outcome, the call would be escalated to second line for further investigation.Took on the customer satisfaction survey project and taught myself VBA and COM automation with Outlook to automate what was previously a very longwinded process.
