Can you imagine a community where everyone has the opportunity to reach their fullest potential? Where every child - regardless of race, class, gender, or zip code - has a fair shot? Where opportunity is widely shared? My journey to make that vision a reality started at 13 years old and runs deep. That journey has led me to study human rights in Central America and South Africa, to launching service-learning programs at Miami University, to building anti-poverty programs for Mayor Bloomberg in New York City, to leading the efforts of hundreds of partners working to tackle poverty and workforce challenges in Cincinnati. Currently, I’m working to promote health equity at Interact for Health. At a time when health disparity and racial injustice have been laid bare, I’m honored to be a part of a team that’s focused squarely on creating a more equitable and healthy community. Prior, I led our United Way through its most difficult moment in its 100+ year history. Following a disruptive leadership change, I stepped up and led the team to bring stability and forward momentum to the organization. Against all odds, we delivered a successful annual campaign that raised $50 million, reversed a 3-year decline, and maintained services that impact the lives of 330,000 people. Before serving as Interim CEO, I led United Way to its focus on reducing poverty. Recognizing that poverty was holding back our community's progress, I catalyzed the change in United Way's impact strategy to focus squarely on breaking the cycle of poverty for families, representing the biggest change in strategy in a decade. I believe nothing of consequence can be accomplished alone. I have a long track record of building partnerships to get big things done, such as Partners for a Competitive Workforce. Together with 150 diverse partners, we leveraged nearly $30M, directly helped over 6,100 people in furthering their education to get family-sustaining jobs, and gained national recognition for our impact. I love the work of leadership. I‘m at my best when I’m bringing people together around a vision for what’s possible, disrupting the status quo, and achieving breakthrough results by working together. As a leader, I aim to build into people’s strengths, create environments that allow everyone to bring all of themselves to the table, and help teams achieve more than they thought possible. I’m often told my greatest strengths are my character, my optimism, my empathy, and my commitment to the community.
