I produce accessibility audit reports which identify failing web content for internal Shared Service Centre customers and external Federal Government public service agencies. Each report takes approximately 2 weeks to produce and uses a combination of manual and automated testing tools, and assesses web content against WCAG 2.0 AA level.I understand the now expired Web Accessibility National Transition Strategy (NTS) how it affected web content produced for the public service and the requirements it had for all Federal Government web content. It has been superseded by the Digital Transformation Office's Digital Service Standard (DSS) and I understand how these new requirements affect web accessibility.Promotion of our team's web accessibility audit reports and research has led me to present at A11y Camp and the OZeWAI web accessibility conferences on the topic of web accessibility within the Federal Government. Separately I have contacted hardware vendors and have procured on a for loan basis mobile devices to test on-device accessibility features for the advancement of web accessibility features in Federal Government web applications.I place great importance advancing web accessibility and take pride in delivering high quality audit reports and pushing for greater accessibility in web applications being developed for the Federal Government.

I was requested to join the Parliamentary Workflow System (PWS) team to make the whole of government web application accessible and conformant to WCAG 2.0. The project had begun prior to the National Transition Strategy (NTS) and due to the fast approaching end date for conformance to the NTS it was determined the web applications had to be made accessible.Vision Australia had identified through an accessibility audit a number of issues and these were prioritised according to severity. I had identified from my prior research the solutions presented in their report would not necessarily work due to the widespread use of third-party Telerik custom controls throughout the application. I worked with senior developers to retrofit accessible solutions using a combination of HTML, CSS, JQuery and ARIA techniques which resulted in varying success. The Telerik controls proved exceptionally difficult to fit accessibility onto, due to a liberal accessibility statement provided by the vendor and insufficient understanding in development teams with how to implement accessibility.I prioritised existing accessibility barriers that had to be addressed and worked with Vision Australia in follow-up technical discussions. I gave guidance to our testing team to ensure the often confusing WCAG 2.0 guidelines were understood and suggested strategies and approaches to consider when testing.
