I oversee the complete running of The Financial Services Exchange (Pty) Ltd - T/A ASTUTE FSE and also its subsidiary business ASTUTE Short Term Exchange (Pty) Ltd, and to lead, manage, integrate and grow the company. I am also accountable for ensuring that the organisation is guided at a strategic level, meets its primary objectives and that it is geared for growth. I ensure the delivery of the outlined Shareholder mandates and alignment with board committees and the board of directors are achieved through effective corporate governance.

Managing the Group wide IT Application environment and strategy.Relocated back South Africa to head office to take on the role of Head of GroupApplications within Group IT reporting directly to the Group IT Director. Responsible for thestrategic direction and delivery of all applications within the Group. Included in this is the managementof the Software Development function and Enterprise architecture. Also responsible for the application strategy and have done extensive work to implement applicationlife cycle management, models for application portfolio management, application operational modelsand modelled development environments.It also included overall accountability for financial management of the group applications including CAPEX and OPEX budgets.

At The Bureaux, later a division of Alexander Forbes, I performed 2 job functions. The Bureaux is a division of Alexander Forbes (Financial Services arm in the UK). The Bureaux was acquired by Alexander Forbes in January 2004. After acquisition the group decided that to establish a software development division and asked me to head up the new division building on the track record we had from the acquired The Bureaux Ltd.My responsibilities included the daily operations of the IT department. The originalappointment was strategic to expand and create a dynamic IT division within the group. The challenge was to convert the relative low key IT presence to one that is indispensable.We also established the Annuity XML standards for the UK which was adopted the same year. The introduction of full compliance checks (regulated by the FSA – Financial Services Authority) has resulted in credit from the FSA. The IT systems we implemented was key in the acquisition of the company which at that stage already did the back-office admin for many large financial services companies.

Mentoring and managing the junior developers working on Engineering based projects, including the establishment of the engineerings company's 1st software devision and establishing the 1st ever performance appraisal system for software developers in the company.

Working as an IT resource in the early years with a reputable engineering company came with a sense of achievement, success and great challenges.Projects were related to solving engineering related matters. The Agricultural Research Council on South Africa consists of various remote sites and operations. Iwas given the sole responsibility of managing the IT infrastructure for the Institute of Soil Climate andWater. The task involved the planning, implementation and maintenance of Novell & Windows NTnetworks. I was also responsible for supporting the end users with any technical queries and hardwarerelated issues.I did the yearly capital expenditure relating to the computer budget as well as anypurchasing of hardware and software.I learned a lot about hardware, networking and the implementation of software on different configurations. Valuable experience in geographical and real-time weather monitoring systems was also gained.
