Profile bio

About Ross Patterson

I retired from daily work in 2020, and am advising clients on software and software engineering topics on a limited basis. For over 40 years I designed, built, and operated software systems, both in-house and for profit, and built and led the teams that do so. I had a proven track record of delivering releases on time and on budget, and meeting promised requirements. By doing so, I enabled Sales and Marketing teams to plan well and to execute according to plan, and I contributed to the companies’ overall success. I am both business- and technology-focused, and I have learned new techniques and technologies as required by each new role or working environment.I am a successful software architect and programmer, with special skills related to software produced for sale as a product or service to others. I have worked in a wide variety of languages, both high- and low-level, and move easily from one to another. I pick up new skills (languages, environments, packages, techniques, patterns, etc.) at every job and task. I apply those skills well to my tasks, and usually produce results rated as “outstanding”. I contribute to Open Source projects as I encounter them in my travels, and my efforts are always appreciated by those communities. I have led small programming teams and large volunteer geek groups, and I consider leadership to be even more challenging than programming. I have written assembler code that was accepted into the Linux kernel. I passed the CISSP exam on the first attempt because it seemed like something I should have as a security-compliance software manager. But really, it's all ones and zeroes, and it's all good fun and good business.

Listed skills include Software Development, Enterprise Software, Software Engineering, Saas, and 44 others.
