    Associate Test Software Engineer
Orbion Space Technology Aug 2021 - Feb 2023
    Houghton, Michigan, United States
Part of the testing + R&D team at Orbion Space Technology. I was the main test software engineer, building software to test our product on the ground before shipping to customers. My primary responsibility was to design, architect, implement, and maintain the primary testing software at Orbion. This was a multi-month project to get the MVP state, and incrementally improving and adding features as iteration went between myself, and the users, the test engineers on my team. This software was very flexible, and it allowed the test technicians to configure test setups, script actions, log data, monitor an ongoing test, and command the test hardwareI developed and maintained many data processing scripts, primarily in Python, that use Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, and other standard scientific Python libraries. For some of the more intensive program this has included optimizing the performance of the programs using multiprocessing and creating C libraries for the Python code to use.I wrote extensive documentation for my software projects to ensure they are easy and straightforward for others to use.

  • Michigan Tech Aerospace Enterprise
Attitude Determination And Control System Engineer
Michigan Tech Aerospace Enterprise Dec 2018 - Apr 2021
    Houghton, Michigan
The system engineer for the Attitude Determination and Control (ADC) subteam, in charge of engineering the ADC subsystem for both the Stratus and Auris missions. My job is both "sides" of system engineering for both missions. I am in charge of defining the requirements and system, and of leading the testing of the ADC subsystem and hardware for both missions. On the testing side I have primarily worked on the Stratus mission. This has consisted of writing testing procedures, carrying out the testing, and interpreting the results. These tests are for verifying the hardware that we have received meets our requirements, is capable of integrating with the rest of the subsystem, and is capable of integrating with the rest of the satellite system. These require knowledge of the low level communication protocols UART and I2C to send and receive data from the hardware. On the requirements side I have mainly been focused on the Auris mission. This has consisted of flowing requirements from the system level, and creating verifiable requirements for the ADC subsystem. I also have created a pointing budget for the Auris mission, which describes many parts of the system using MATLAB code and Simulink simulation.
  • Michigan Tech Aerospace Enterprise
Attitude Determination And Control Project Engineer
Michigan Tech Aerospace Enterprise Jan 2018 - Dec 2018
    Houghton, Michigan
The project I worked on in Spring 2018 is reaction wheel momentum analysis for our Stratus spacecraft. The main goal of this project was to make sure that reaction wheels that our team were buying could provide the angular momentum needed to overcome disturbance torques. This was done by creating a 3D simulation in MATLAB modeling the orbit of Stratus. Other parameters found was the total energy needed to fully saturate the reaction wheels, and another program was made to find the desaturation time. At the end of the semester I wrote extensive documentation for future users for both of the programs. In the Summer and Fall of 2018 I primarily worked on hardware testing for the Status mission. I helped carry out the testing, wrote one testing procedure, and also troubleshooted testing.

I work with one engineer at a time on one or more of their projects at a time. Most of the work is for the military, and includes designing parts in Creo Parametric, drafting parts and assemblies that have already been fabricated, improving and altering existing designs, doing off the shelf part research, and creating slideshows to be presented to military stakeholders.

I manufactured parts for the welders, and directly for customers. This included milling, cutting, shearing, and using a hydraulic metal brake. I also helped organize and setup a company cancer fundraiser at the end of the summer.
  • Merkle Furniture
