My wife Lauren has been visiting Kenya since 2005. In 2008 I wanted to do something exciting so I approached Lauren about joining her on her next trip. It was the greatest experience of my life and Lauren and I spent the next few years returning to Kenya and putting together volunteer groups to join us. We aimed at recruiting professionals from all sorts of professions...education, health, sports, construction, SEN etc. Over the years the project has grown and having seen first hand the difference that this trip can make to people, Lauren and I decided we wanted to offer this opportunity to more people who also gain vital experience from the trips. Lauren worked at Cornwall College at the time, so this presented the opportunity to link with them to encourage students to volunteer. In 2011 we successfully collaborated with Cornwall College and in took 40 students and staff to Kenya. It was a huge challenge to coordinate such a trip. We carried out a range of projects over the 4 month period that included sports education, teacher training, improving educational facilities and resources but the most significant project that we achieved was the construction of a brand new nursery that now has over 120 young learners attending. Having linked with Cornwall College we officially started up 'Volunteer Kenya' a program geared towards offering opportunities to people who want to 'make a difference' whilst also gaining vital experience and skills to take into the work place. Since the start of Volunteer Kenya, Lauren & I have taken over 150 volunteers to Kenya and created some of the most exciting, enriching and memorable trips for our fellow volunteers. Our trips aren't just about volunteering though...we aim to show you the beauty and culture of Kenya. Our trips are built around our safaris and expeditions to famous game reserves, lakes and mountains. Kenya is a vibrant country with amazing people, wildlife and culture.
