I set up Internal Communications at DMU as a new post and function for the university. In the three years of the role I have worked under a Senior Internal Communications Officer, with 6 months in which I led the function. I have editorial responsibility for two large mini-sites aimed at staff and students, manage the writing and distribution of all-user and targeted emails for staff and students, manage a network of more than 50 digital screens via the Onelan digital signage management system. I created and managed production of the DMYou staff magazine, and produce and publish a weekly student newsletter and monthly staff Cascade briefing.I work closely with the rest of the communications team to target staff and student comms via a range of social media and news outlets. I have forged excellent relationships with colleagues at all levels from Vice-Chancellor downwards, across departments including events, Student Services, strategic partnerships, recruitment and many more. I have also forged excellent relationships with three different sets of Students Union exec reps.On a daily basis I write news stories, edit copy, create imagery in photoshop, create signage for the digital screens, write high level communications aimed at everyone from the university's executive board through to university cleaners and estates staff. I am used to dealing with multiple and conflicting deadlines on a variety of high level complex projects. I have worked on challenging confidential projects including the visit of Her Majesty the Queen to DMU and looking after confidential communications around workforce reductions.I have dealt with crisis communications which include everything from student complaints, the management of communications around moving the graduation ceremonies to a new venue, and building evacuations. I have also taken on extra roles including fire warden and evacuation controller for the building in which I work.

I produced high quality copy for a range of advertising materials, print, web and new sites. I created the house style guide, and offered advice on style, tone and audience targeting. I worked in partnership with designers to create high quality advertising campaigns.I wrote speeches for the Vice-Chancellor and for the university's honorands.I worked closely with the university's proofreader to ensure that the university's brand and tone of voice was consistent across a range of channels, and of the highest quality.

Producing high quality copy for all the college’s marketing collateral including prospectuses, website, business to business publications, flyers, adverts, and much more. Working to tight deadlines in a high pressure environment.

Planning and booking recruitment advertising with clients at trade magazines and newspapers across the UK. Collation and production of the Council's internal jobs bulletin. Proofreading of adverts, some copywriting of council publications including Leicester Link and the Diwali Guide.Was closely involved in the setting up of the City Council's new jobs website and presented a proposal for a redesign of the Council's corporate advertising style.My role was deadline based and I had to enforce in-house deadlines to make sure publication deadlines were met. I acted as a mediator between the departments, designers and publication, making sure adverts were prioritised, designed, booked and sent on timeI was closely involved in the setting-up of Leicester City Council’s online jobs website, and headed up training in my department as well as aiding HR officers with their queries.
