About Robert Taylor
What motivates me is leveraging technology to solve real problems in an enduring way. This means I bring an optimistic yet critical eye to projects – and means I dig deeply into the core problem, and the reality of the context. Technology for technology’s sake is superfluous; solving big problems with new concepts, enabled by new tech, is what drives me. My experience is wide-ranging, including rigorous technical analysis, technology investing, program management, strategy consulting, business case and model development, advocacy, and global & public health. I’ve built programs from concept through execution to enduring impact. I bring a strategic view to problems, then drive along the critical path to creating a product or technology. At the Gates Foundation, I worked to bring the best diagnostic and digital health technology to the developing world. In some cases, this meant driving innovation using the latest technologies or spurring totally new technology concepts, in others, this meant building on existing low-cost solutions to fit them to purpose. In both cases, it required building relationships with some of the brightest minds in the world to develop and shape their technology, and to provide the infrastructure – the business model, regulatory framework, and user analysis, etc. – for them to succeed.Prior to my time at the Gates foundation I supported the US Government, where I leveraged my technical and business expertise to engage the research capabilities of the United States toward some of the most difficult problems in homeland and biological defense.
