About Austin Roth
I am a Director of Development at R3 Renewables, covering the full development lifecycle for projects R3's existing portfolio in MISO and greenfield opportunities outside of MISO. R3 Renewables sites its projects on reclaimed mine sites, which present a unique opportunity to repurpose the land for solar and storage development. With over 8 million acres of land previously disturbed by surface mining across the U.S., R3's approach enables its solar + storage projects to replace retiring utility generation units with clean, reliable power, reduce the impact to the area’s best soils, and support coal communities by creating jobs and adding to the tax base.Prior to my time R3 Renewables, I worked as an Associate Development Manager at Bechtel Enterprises, covering the platform's projects in both MISO and ERCOT, screening for both new greenfield projects and jointly developed projects, and activities relating to broader portfolio management and forecasting for the team's 2GW portfolio.Prior to Bechtel Enterprises, I received my MBA at MIT Sloan School of Business, where I focused my efforts on the renewable economy and early-stage ventures in the energy & sustainability fields. Prior to Sloan, I spent 6 years at JPMorgan focusing on corporate lending in the energy and natural resources industries, both in North American and the EMEA regions. My time at JPMorgan in Houston and London allowed me to obtain experience in a wide variety of industries and geographies, and develop skills in:Credit Risk: Devised and adapted risk management methodologies to develop in-depth risk profiles for both existing and new client exposure deriving from corporate loans and long-term derivatives contracts. I frequently liaised with and presented to senior management to approve corporate financial models and my personal recommendations for investment bank transactions and terms on legal documents. Financial Analysis: Modeled financial and risk based metrics for dozens of corporate lending transactions using traditional DCF methods. Transactions ranged from international project financing, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate restructurings occurring primarily during the oil & gas price downturn in 2015 - 2016. Project Management: As an associate, I managed coordination efforts between credit, industry, legal, and infrastructure teams to drive financial, legal, and documentary due diligence, structuring, and approval of corporate lending deals.
