Project Title: Enhanced subglacial quarrying by a hard-bedded ice stream crossing the Shield-Paleozoic boundary in Southern OntarioProject Supervisor: Dr. Nick EylesBuilding on an undergraduate research project of the Dummer moraine of southern Ontario, the goal of the research was to develop a publishable paper on the genesis of till beneath ice streams crossing lithological boundaries. The research centers around DEM geomorphological interpretation using ArcGIS as well as field investigations of the area south of the Precambrian – Paleozoic boundary of southern Ontario. Data was collected from the OGS, GSC, other academic sources, and independently to build and test a model of till genesis and the retreat of an ice stream.

Quaternary Geological Mapping Along the Highway 11 Corridor, Northeastern OntarioLead Geologist: Andrea Marich• Worked as a member of a Quaternary mapping project along the highway 11 corridor of northern Ontario between Iroquois Falls and Hearst.• Worked with a small geological survey crew, field mapping the first meter of subsurface material with the goal of updating the Quaternary maps of the region.• Gained experience identifying and sampling tills to gain further insight into the geologic past of the area and identify the mineralogical structure of the material held in the tills.• Collected field soil samples throughout the map area to determine the chemical composition of the soil horizon to gauge agricultural potential.• Investigated sedimentary and glacial structures in the field, correlated them with the processes which formed them, and learned how to interpret this information to develop an overall picture of the geologic past of the area.• Operated Trucks and ATV's in the field to gain as much access as possible to all areas in the map area over all types of terrain.
