Hounde Gold Operation, Burkina Faso

Undertaking my practicum experience with Hounde Gold Operation (HGO) during various phases of construction was an incredible learning experience. HGO is located near the rural community of Hounde, approximately 250km from Burkina Faso's capital of Ouagadougou. The project saw the construction and safe delivery of a low all-in-sustaining-cost (AISC) open pit, carbon in leach gold mine on time and on budget. As my practicum experience was undertaken in 2, 6-week placements at various phases of construction, I was grateful for exposure to the projects primary civil and earthworks and several months later to witness and assist with the processing plant mechanical and electrical installation. The experience gained while at HGO has been invaluable to my professional growth as a young professional engineering in training. My abilities to communicate, effectively manage time, money and resources for both personal and academic projects as well as the understanding of business, procurement and logistics have greatly evolved because of my experience with HGO.
