Appointed in 2008 I joined the Police authority to sit alongside local councillors from the 10 Greater Manchester councils, plus nine independent members (of which I was one) in holding Greater Manchester Police to account. I was Vice Chair of the Quality of Service committee and was Lead Member for professional standards. In my time at the Authority I was asked to lead a scrutiny commission, looking at antisocial behaviour. This involved partnership working and produced a final report, setting out recommendations to improve the policing of antisocial behaviour.The Police Authority disbanded in 2012 to be replaced by elected Police and Crime Commissioners.
