Firstly, please give blood if you can and plant trees. It's important!Mark has 20+ years experience in all things forest, soil, water, land management and plant science. He has led commercial forestry operations and established other carbon sink plantings for financial and environmental benefits. Right now, he's devoted to agriculture - teaching and making plant nutrition work the best way for farmers. He also applies knowledge and natural science philosophies to all kinds of land management. Doing this in innovative ways that provide leadership and earn trust and respect from colleagues.Mark has done a bit of science, a bit of mine rehab, a bit of operational forestry, a bit of business management, a bit of team building, in fact a bit of lots of stuff. His guinea pigs for growing critical thinking, empowered and situational leaders are his daughters. He gets a chuckle out of Linkedin and how "serious" people get really furrowed brows.A passion for plants and soil...Plants are beautiful and amazing things. Not just in a hippy way. Add water, light, a few nutrients and they take air, turn it into food and fibre and fart out oxygen. Food and fibre is also worth stuff. So, a catch-phrase of "value from thin air" is very cool and more than a little bit important.Mark strives to foster custodianship of the world's plants and carbon sinks and help everyone appreciate their specialness. Western Australian farmers do it pretty well, given they work with some of the planet's oldest soils - at least an order of magnitude older than most places in the world where agriculture is practised. These precious antiques (the soils, not the farmers) need looking after, and a bit of a helping hand. Nutrition from properly-used fertiliser is one such bit of help we can give. Proven ameliorants like lime and gypsum, plus the new wave of bio-stimulants also have a place. How do we find that place and combine it all with data and digital technology to make it work?My role: Creating Summit's services that make fertiliser more than just a transaction. Lending knowledge, learning capacity, advice and investigative science to make sure the best stuff is used the best way at the best rate for the best farm production outcomes....plus coming to terms with zeds and esses. My year 5 teacher, Mrs Crothers, and her weapon of choice - the behind-the-knee-seeking wooden ruler - would be devastated.
