Grant Operations & Data Manager
Grants Operations Team Leader
As the Grants Operations Team Leader I have responsibility for managing and overseeing all aspects of grant operations and administration at the Nuffield Foundation. I lead the Grants and Programmes Operations team, line managing a team of five and redeploying resources as required to provide flexible operational support across the whole portfolio of grants and programmes. My role includes extensive collaboration between all teams at the Foundation to embed the new Salesforce based CRM and grants management system across the grants portfolio.
Membership Manager
As a key member of the Membership, Marketing and Communications team, I have responsibility to deliver the Society’s Strategic aims relating to membership, international activities, grants and awards. A large part of delivering these aims has included the management of the relationships with internal and external stakeholders and the implementation and improvement of procedures to ensure a smooth and efficient member experience. Responsibilities and key achievements: • Work with the head of department to provide a specification, assist with the development and implementation of a new membership fulfilment system• Management and development of the relationships with the advocacy based ‘Local Ambassador’ network.• Line Management of the Membership Executive position• Management and administration of the Awards scheme and Committee. Management and administration of various committees relating to grants• Implementation and management of the Undergraduate Recognition Award scheme• Schedule and write articles for the Society’s member magazine ‘The Biochemist’ covering membership, awards,international activities and grants• Working with other departments to improve and develop the membership offering for those working in industry, including production of an industry strategy.• International relationship building in the target countries identified in the Society’s International Strategy with the aim to further develop the international Local Ambassador network in those target countries.
Conferences And Membership Officer
As Conference and Membership Officer I was responsible for producing high quality events, conferences and training events. I developed and delivered membership engagement projects to enhance the member experience, this included the development of a member event programme. Collaboration with other departments, senior management, external stakeholders and contractors was key to delivering successful projects and communicating these activities to the membership. In addition to continued conference organisation, my main duties included:• Playing a key role in the development of the Local Ambassador network that resulted in increased retention and recruitment rates of members at all career levels• Overarching responsibility for most grants offered by the Society• Implementation of a new grant management system. • Maintaining and improving the membership component of the website.• Creating and managing project specific budgets. • Attending events in the UK and internationally to recruit new members and engage with current members• Implementing and marketing two new grant schemes for members• Working with the Communication and Marketing Managers to ensure the effective publicity of events and activities

A key part of a busy conference and events team, my role involved organising scientific conferences for members and the wider scientific community. These events varied from five day residential scientific retreats for up to 100 attendees, to large focused meetings for up to 300 scientists. The role required excellent time, project management, and organisational skills, which were essential in meeting the strict deadlines involved in event management. Main duties included: • Creating and managing project specific budgets. • Working with scientific representatives to produce a successful, relevant, and interesting event programme. • Working with venues to ensure the most effective, safe and enjoyable event for attendees. • Ensuring speakers and external stake holders are dealt with in a professional manner. • Working with staff and other providers to ensure the delivery of excellent customer service for event attendees. • Working closely with the scientific representatives to ensure adequate funding from external sponsors is achieved. • Marketing the events to relevant audiences. • Representing the Society at events, recruiting new members for the Society, and maintaining good relationships with current members. • Managing conference staff and volunteers to ensure seamless events. • Maintaining the Conferences component of the Society's website.
