I subsequently earned an MBA from Indiana University in 2000 and I spent 31 years working in various finance capacities. For the last 13 years, I was CFO and General manager for a digital search advertising business until I left my W-2 job in 2024 to focus on real estate.In 2011 I started off buying rental properties and then I pivoted to LP investing in private equity/syndication deals, primarily in multifamily. I had favorable results with owning properties outright, but it proved to be more active than I wanted at the time whereas I found the passive, group investing model to be more scalable. These real estate investments I made resulted in steady passive income and gave me the option to step away from the 9 to 5 job. I’ve been asked what I would recommend to new investors or busy professionals that would like to diversify from Wall Street and begin investing in real estate. My answer is: “start passively investing in commercial real estate”. I personally have re-allocated a significant portion of my portfolio from public markets/equities into real estate and this strategy has worked well for me. Passive investing in real estate allows diversification and lower volatility than is often seen in the public markets.
