This exciting new position as a Senior Bioinformatician at Monash University is a great opportunity to help closing the gap between researchers and clinicians!For this role I am primarily based on the Monash Health Translation Precinct (MHTP) which is a partnership between Monash University, Monash Health (Victoria’s largest healthcare provider) and world-renowned researchers at the MIMR-PHI Institute of Medical Research.My main responsibility is to collaborate with the MHTP’s Medical Genomics Facility and its associated research groups in order to provide them with bioinformatics support from the experimental design phase through to publication. This primarily includes analysing next generation sequencing data, collecting and archiving the metadata for these experiments and creating workflow pipelines to facilitate data processing, storage, retrieval and access by internal and external scientists.To do so I am working closely with the Monash Bioinformatics Platform, a core facility that provides bioinformatics support to the University and affiliated organisations in partnership with research groups and facilities. It has a wide range of expertise in biological research fields requiring cutting edge computational techniques such as genomics, proteomics and structural biology.It is also the hub for a distributed network of bioinformaticians embedded across the University and a partner in technical training and infrastructure development.I am very proud to be part of the prestigious Monash University and in particular the MHTP which promotes cross-disciplinary interactions between medical researchers and clinicians, so that innovative discoveries in basic science in the fields of cancer, inflammatory and infectious diseases, neonatal and fetal physiology, endocrinology and reproductive health, can be readily translated in clinical practice!
